Washburn Rural opened Centennial League play Tuesday with its third straight win, a 50-9 romp past Junction City. Senior Brooklyn DeLeye led the No. 7-ranked (Class 6A) Junior Blues with 17 points while junior Zoe Canfield added 13 points and three 3-pointers. Hayden dropped a 43-34 decision at No. 3-ranked (5A) Emporia on Tuesday in the Wildcats' Centennial League opener. Sophomore Brylee Meier led Hayden with 17 points while sophomore Norma Greco added nine points. Both Meier and Greco hit two 3-pointers.

EMPORIA (7-0, 1-0) at TOPEKA HIGH (7-1, 1-0)

Topeka High, ranked No. 6 in Class 6A by the KBCA, opened the 2023 portion of its schedule with a 56-36 non-league win over Blue Valley Northwest Wednesday night in the Trojans' home opener. Senior Kiki Smith led Topeka High with 25 points and 11 rebounds. Emporia, No. 3-ranked in 5A, remained unbeaten with a 43-34 win in the Spartans' Centennial League opener. Senior Rebecca Snyder led Emporia with 19 points and 12 rebounds.

SHAWNEE HEIGHTS (4-1, 4-1) at LANSING (2-3, 2-3)

Shawnee Heights will be making its 2023 debut with a United Kansas Conference road contest at Lansing. The T-Birds wrapped up '22 with a 48-36 UKC win over Leavenworth. Senior Taylor Rottinghaus led Shawnee Heights with 17 points while senior Emari Doby added a double-double with 13 points an 13 rebounds. Lansing returned to action on Tuesday, with the Lions dropping a 54-23 UKC decision to Lansing.

 HIGHLAND PARK (2-1, 1-0) at ATCHISON (0-4, 0-1)

Highland Park ended 2022 with its second sraight win, a 53-25 decision over Kansas City-Wyandotte in the Scots' Meadowlark Conference debut. Sophomore Amelia Ramsey led the Scots with 22 points, 21 rebounds and five blocked shots against the Bulldogs. Atchison is still looking for its first win of the season after dropping a Meadowlark Conference game to Kansas City-Sumner, with the final score reported as 15-0.

TOPEKA WEST (1-5, 1-4) at DE SOTO (5-2, 3-1)

Topeka West picked up its first win of the season in its final game before the holiday break, with the Chargers taking a 49-11 United Kansas Conference decision over Kansas City-Turner. Senior Jazmyn Ford paced Topeka West with 14 points while junior Zoe Clark added 10 points. De Soto returned to action on Tuesday, rolling to a 54-23 UKC win over Lansing.

SILVER LAKE (5-0, 3-0) at ROCK CREEK (6-0, 3-0)

Silver Lake, ranked No. 2 in Class 3A by the KBCA, will take on its second undefeated team on the week in Friday night's Mid-East League game at Rock Creek. Silver Lake opened the week with a 53-40 league road win at previously-unbeaten Rossville. Junior Makenzie McDaniel led Silver Lake with 22 points and 14 rebounds while junior McKinley Kruger added 12 points and senior Mariah Farmer 10. Rock Creek opened 2023 with a 36-19 Mid-East League romp past Riley County on Tuesday.

ROSSVILLE (5-1, 0-1) at RILEY COUNTY (3-3, 0-2)

Rossville, No. 9-ranked in Class 3A by the KBCA, will be looking to bounce back from its first loss of the season, a 53-40 Mid-East League decision against No. 2-ranked Silver Lake. Junior Emma Mitchell scored a team-high 13 points against Silver Lake while freshman Rylee Dick added 12 points and junior Kinsey Perine 10. Riley County is coming off of a 36-19 league loss to Rock Creek.

CAIR PARAVEL LATIN (2-3, 0-0) at KANSAS CITY CHRISTIAN (1-5, 0-1)

Cair Paravel Latin will return to action with a trip to Kansas City Christian for a Kaw Valley Conference game. The Lions dropped a 53-22 non-league decision to Mission Valley in its final game before the holiday break while Kansas City Christian is coming off a 47-31 league loss to Olathe Heritage Christian.
