Caryl, a senior who will play collegiately at Illinois, went 9 of 11 with three doubles, a triple, a home run and 12 runs batted in as Topeka High's softball team remained unbeaten with a 10-0, 27-8 Centennial League doubleheader sweep over Emporia last Tuesday.
BETHANY DRUSE, Seaman
The Viking sophomore continued her dominating season in the girls 800 meters Monday at Lawrence, posting a win in the Free State Barrier Breakers track and field meet in 2 minutes, 21.02 seconds, winning by nearly two seconds. Druse ranks among the top 10 in the state (all classes) in the 800.
JAYCEE GINTER, Washburn University
A freshman. the Shawnee Heights product led the way as the Ichabods' softball team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-2 MIAA win over Emporia State Sunday on Senior Day at Gahnstrom Field. Ginter posted a complete-game pitching victory, improving to 12-4 on the season, and hit a two-run double to give Washburn a 4-1 lead.
LUKE LEONETTI, Washburn Rural
A junior, Leonetti won his first individual city golf title with a 27-hole total of 114 Monday at Topeka Country Club, leading Washburn Rural to its 11th straight city team championship by a 32-stroke margin. Leonetti started his day with a nine-hole score of 39 and then followed that with an 18-hole 75. Leonetti finished third in the Topeka West Invitational, held in conjuction with the city tournament.
ALEX SHERER, Hayden/Rossville
A senior co-op tennis player from Rossville, Sherer represented Hayden in last Monday's 10-school Topeka West Invitational at the Kossover Tennis Center, going a perfect 6-0 on the day to win the singles championship. Sherer capped his day with an 8-5 win over Kansas City Christian's Caleb Bartels in the finals.
JEREMIAH SMITH, Shawnee Heights
Smith, a sophomore, won individual titles in the 100 and 200-meter dashes and the 110-meter hurdles in the Barrier Breakers meet at Free State and also ran on the T-Birds' winning 4x100 relay team. Smith clocked a winning time of 10.53 seconds in the 100, 22.18 in the 200, 14.34 in the 110 hurdles and helped Heights to a win in the 4x100 in 43.40 seconds.
