Barrientos, a 5-foot-11 senior from Barcelona, Spain, scored 15 points and grabbed 14 rebounds as Washburn's women's basketball team capped a 2-0 week with a 72-67 MIAA win over rival Emporia State on Saturday at Lee Arena.
KAEDEN BONNER, Seaman
A 6-1 junior, Bonner connected on eight 3-pointers and scored 24 points for Seaman's boys basketball team in Saturday's 72-68 loss to host McPherson in the third-place game of the McPherson Invitational. Bonner scored 51 points in Seaman's three tournament games.
ELIJAH BROOKS, Topeka West
A 6-4 senior, Brooks scored a total of 94 points and registered three double-doubles in three tournament games as 10-1 Topeka West won its first Topeka Invitational Tournament championship since 2004. Brooks scored 34 points and had 10 rebounds in a 59-57 first-round win over Lawrence, including the game-winning free throws with 3.5 seconds remaining, scored 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in the Chargers' 85-55 semifinal win over St. Marys had had 30 points and 14 rebounds in West's 64-56 win over Wichita Northwest in Saturday's championship game.
ZOE CANFIELD, Washburn Rural
A 5-11 sophomore guard, Canfield hit six 3-pointers, including four in the first quarter, and finished with a game-high 20 points as Washburn Rural's girls basketball team capped a 3-0 week with a 58-32 Centennial League road win at Emporia on Friday. Canfield hit a total of 11 3-pointers in Rural's three wins on the week, including victories over state-ranked Shawnee Mission Northwest and Emporia.
TYLER GEIMAN, Washburn University
Geiman, the Ichabods' 6-1 point guard, came close to the second triple-double of his career in Saturday's 68-65 MIAA men's basketball win over rival Emporia State at Lee Arena, registering 18 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists as Washburn improved to 11-7 on the season.
JALEN LEWIS, Washburn University
Lewis, a 5-11 junior guard, hit a game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Washburn's men's basketball team a 68-65 MIAA win over rival Emporia State Saturday at Lee Arena. Lewis had 11 points in the game as the Ichabods improved to 11-7 with their fifth win over their past six games.
