EASTON BROXTERMAN, Washburn Rural
A junior returning Class 6A state champion wrestler, 132-pounder Broxterman posted a perfect 5-0 record with five pins on Saturday as Washburn Rural claimed the team championship in the Seaman Duals with a 5-0 record. Broxterman recorded four of his five pins in the first period, including three between 24 and 42 seconds.
AUBREE DEWEY, Washburn University
A 5-foot-7 senior point guard out of Plainville, Dewey scored the game-winning basket with two seconds left in Thursday's 64-62 MIAA women's basketball win over Central Oklahoma, scoring 10 of her 16 points over the final 9:35. Dewey followed that up with 14 points and seven rebounds in Saturday's 85-58 conference win over Newman as Washburn improved to 10-3 with its third straight win.
BRENNON DODGE, Shawnee Heights
A 6-foot-1 senior guard, Dodge scored a game high 25 points Friday night as Shawnee Heights' boys basketball team notched its fourth straight win in a 76-51 home United Kansas Conference romp past Lansing. Dodge scored the T-Birds' first 12 points of the game and 19 in the first half as 4-2 Heights took control. Dodge went 10 of 12 from the field with three 3-pointers and hit both his free throw attempts.
AMARE JONES, Washburn Rural
Jones, a 6-foot-1 junior guard, scored a game-high 20 points Friday night in his second game back from a wrist injury as Washburn Rural's boys basketball team recorded its first win of the season in a 62-29 Centennial League road romp past Hayden. Jones went 7 of 8 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers as the Junior Blues improved to 1-6.
KEERA LACOCK, Rossville
A senior 115-pound standout wrestler, Lacock improved to 17-0 on the season in Saturday's Rossville Girls Invitational, winning the 115-pound title as the Bulldawgs finished fourth as a team in the 22-school event. A Class 4A-1A state runnerup as a junior, Lacock took a 6-2 decision over Oskaloosa's Holly Thacher in the title match.
LAUREN SANDSTROM, Hayden
Sandstrom, a 6-foot senior, scored a game-high 22 points and also grabbed six rebounds in Hayden's 46-38 home Centennial League win over Washburn Rural Friday night. Sandstrom went 8 of 10 from the field and 6 of 8 from the free throw line as the No. 2-ranked (Class 3A) Wildcats snapped a 12-game losing streak against perennial 6A state power Rural.
