ALLEN BAUGHMAN, Shawnee Heights
A 5-foot-8, 180-pound senior running back, Baughman carried the ball 12 times for 177 yards and three touchdowns in the first half last Thursday night as Shawnee Heights rolled to a 56-20 win over Highland Park in the regional round of the Class 5A football playoffs. Baughman scored on runs of 4, 70 and 20 yards as Shawnee Heights improved to 8-2 on the season.
JC HEIM, Washburn Rural
Heim a 6-2, 225-pound running back/linebacker, starred on both offense and defense Friday night as Washburn Rural improved to 10-0 with a 27-20 win over Junction City in the regional round of the Class 6A playoffs. Unofficially, Heim rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries and caught three passes for 21 yards and a touchdown. Heim scored on a 2-yard run and a 23-yard pass from Branton DeWeese.
GRIFFIN HEINEN, Washburn Rural
A senior midfielder, Heinen had an assist and the game-winning goal on Saturday as Washburn Rural's soccer team capped a 19-2 season with a 2-1 win over Dodge City in the third-place game of the Class 6A state tournament. Heinen was credited with the assist on Hayden Shriver's goal 1:26 into the game and scored the game-winning goal with just 56 seconds remaining off an assist from Devon Rutschmann.
MAX HUSTON, Seaman
Huston, a 6-1, 180-pound junior quarterback, ran for two touchdowns and passed for two TDs Friday night as Seaman, the No. 9 Class 5A East seed, upset No. 1 seed De Soto 31-28 in the regional round of the 5A playoffs at De Soto. Huston ran for 53 and 12-yard touchdowns and threw for 73 and 1-yard TDs to Callen Barta as the Vikings improved to 6-4 on the season and advanced to the quarterfinal round of the playoffs.
JASE PAVLIK, Cair Paravel Latin
A 5-10, 150-pound junior quarterback, Pavlik had 312 passing yards and four touchdowns on a 12 of 18 performance and rushed for 305 yards and three TDs on 11 carries as Cair Paravel Latin, in only its second year as a full KSHSAA member in football, advanced to the third round of the Eight-Man Division I playoffs with a 76-30 road win over Central-Burden Friday in the regional round of the playoffs.
JENSEN SCHRICKEL, Hayden
Schrickel, a 5-foot-10, 150-pound junior wide receiver/defensive back, had a big night on both sides of the ball Friday night as Hayden improved to 10-0 with a 42-24 win over Santa Fe Trail in the regional round of the Class 3A football playoffs. Schrickel scored on a 48-yard reverse for the Wildcats, scored on a 29-yard pass from quarterback Connor Hanika and also came up with a pass interception late in the game to help Hayden close out the win.
