TYLAN ALEJOS, Topeka High
Alejos, a senior, rushed for 223 yards and three touchdowns on 32 carries and also had two pass receptions for 19 yards and a TD as Topeka High's football team picked up its first victory of the season, a 28-20 Centennial League decision over Emporia last Thursday at Hummer Sports Park.
JACK CHISHAM, Hayden
A senior running back/defensive back, Chisham rushed for 182 yards on 14 attempts and scored on runs of 2 and 69 yards in Hayden's 39-6 victory over Topeka West last Friday night at Hummer Sports Park, helping the Wildcats improve to 2-1 on the season.
ALLISON MAXWELL, Washburn University
Maxwell, a senior out of Jefferson City, Mo., helped the third-ranked Ichabod volleyball team open its MIAA season with a pair of victories, a 3-0 sweep at Fort Hays State last Friday and a 3-1 win at No. 1-ranked Nebraska-Kearney on Saturday. Against Nebraska-Kearney Maxwell registered her 1,000 career kill.
TANNER NEWKIRK, Hayden
A senior, Newkirk and his Hayden teammates ventured to Pella, Iowa to compete in last Saturday's Heartland Cross Country Classic, with Newkirk finishing fifth in a field of 283 runners, clocking a five-kilometer time of 15 minutes, 48.6 seconds. Newkirk was the top Kansas finisher.
ALIYAH NORTH, Washburn Rural
North, a senior, carded a three-over-par 74 at Heritage Park Golf Courst to take medalist honors in last Thursday's Olathe Northwest Invitational. North led the way as Washburn Rural captured the team championship by 18 strokes.
PORTER SCHAFERSMAN, Washburn Rural
Schafersman, a senior captain for the Junior Blues, scored a three-goal hat trick in Thursday's 5-0 Centennial League soccer win over Hayden, his third straight hat trick as Washburn Rural improved to 6-0 on the 2021 season. Schafersman also scored three goals in wins over Highland Park and Junction City.
