In a game where Basehor-Linwood took a sizable lead into halftime, the Vikings chipped away at the lead in the third quarter and were able to take the lead in the final stanza on two different occasions. But the Bobcats fought back in the last three minutes to take the contest, 56-51.

“Our shot selection wasn’t very good, but we were able to get to the free throw line, get some points there and felt okay to be down 11 points at halftime,” Seaman coach Craig Cox said.

The third quarter saw the Vikes slowly get closer to the Bobcats, outscoring them 19-10 in the quarter.

“To their (the Vikes) credit, they really came out and did what we talked about which was to chip away at the lead and get yourself back in the game,'' Cox said. "We did that and continued that momentum into the fourth quarter.”

Early in the fourth quarter, sophomore Landon Wiltz hit a 3-pointer to give the Vikes their first lead of the game, 42-41.

The game went back and forth over the next five minutes, and with a little over two minutes remaining, Seaman had a 51-47 lead.

That’s when the Bobcats had a four-point possession where Payton Brown hit a lay-up, was fouled, but missed the free throw.  The rebound was corralled by senior Mile Hinkle, who scored to tie the game at 51.

Over the last two minutes the Bobcats outscored Seaman 5-0, although the Vikes had two opportunities to tie the game, but missed short jump shots in the lane.  Basehor-Linwood made three of six from the free throw line over the last 45 seconds to create separation and the final score of 56-51.

Seaman was led by two players in double figures, with sophomores KaeVon Bonner and Landon Wiltz scoring 15 and 10 points, respectively. Holden Finley led the Vikes with five assists.

Basehor-Linwood was led by junior Breckin McBride with 19 points, junior Peyton Brown scored 14 points and senior Mile Hinkle totaled 10.  Hinkle and fellow senior Eddie Wilson led the Bobcats with seven rebounds each.

The Vikings (3-3, 3-3 UKC) host the Shawnee Heights Thunderbirds Friday night at approximately 7:15 in another United Kansas Conference battle.
