Perennial state title contender Bishop Miege jumped on Topeka High early Tuesday night on the Stags’ home floor, ending the Trojans’ 41-game winning streak with a 70-52 romp.

Miege, ranked No. 1 in Class 4A, led Topeka High, top-ranked in 6A, by a commanding 23-11 margin at the end of the first quarter and was never seriously threatened.

The Trojans, who fell to 18-1, trailed 40-27 at the half and Miege (17-1) put the game away with a 21-10 third quarter, taking a 24-point advantage into the fourth.

McDonald’s All-American Payton Verhulst, a Louisville signee, led all scorers with 29 points, including 4 3-pointers.

Junior standout NiJaree Canady scored 22 points while seniors Jae’Mya Lyons and Lilly Smith added 10 points apiece.

MANHATTAN GIRLS 44, SEAMAN 36

Manhattan’s girls (10-9, 9-6) rode a 14-3 fourth quarter to a 44-36 Centennial League comeback road win at Seaman.

The Indians trailed 33-30 at the end of the third quarter before rallying for the victory while holding the Vikings without a field goal in the final quarter. 

Taylor Claussen led Manhattan with a game-high 14 points, while sophomore Lauren Sweeney led Seaman (6-12, 6-8) with 8 points, including a pair of 3-pointers.

DE SOTO GIRLS , SHAWNEE HEIGHTS 

Tuesday’s United Kansas Conference contest was a defensive battle throughout, with De Soto topping Shawnee Heights, 35-28.

Shawnee Heights (5-12, 3-6) led 23-20 at the end of the third quarter, but De Soto (9-10, 5-3) outscored the T-Birds 15-5 down the stretch to pull out the win.

Senior Adysen Burghart and Tatum Brown paced Shawnee Heights with Burghart scoring 10 points and Brown adding 9. 

Brown had 3 3-pointers and Burghart 2 3s.

ROCK CREEK GIRLS 39, ROSSVILLE 35

Rossville (5-12) pushed Rock Creek to the limit before the Mustangs rallied for a 39-35 win on the strength of a 16-10 fourth quarter.

The Bulldawgs led 9-8 at the end of the first quarter, 20-18 at the half and 25-23 at the start of the fourth quarter, but Rock Creek pulled out the win to improve to 15-4 on the season.

Freshman Emma Mitchell scored 10 points and freshman Kinsey Perine 9 points for Rossville.

Rossville and Rock Creek will play again next Monday night at Rock Creek in a Class 3A sub-state contest.

ROYAL VALLEY GIRLS 44, SILVER LAKE 41

Silver Lake (8-10) used a 15-4 second quarter to take a 30-21 halftime lead and led 36-33 at the start of the fourth quarter before Royal Valley rallied for the 44-41 win, improving to 16-4 on the season.

Sophomore Taylor Ross led Silver Lake with 16 points while sophomore Mariah Farmer added 12 points.
