In the first round of Class 5A sub-state play Tuesday night, Seaman's girls made it three in a row over Topeka West this season, moving on to Friday's sub-state final at Emporia with a 60-33 home victory.

Matt Tinsley’s Vikings, who improved to 7-14, took an early lead with the help of good shooting and stingy defense, building a commanding19-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.

“We told them in practice, 'On defense you have to make it happen, on offense you have to let it happen.’ I feel like we let it happen on offense and got the shots we wanted,” Tinsley said.

Defensively the Vikings forced 24 turnovers on the game, 15 of which came in the first half.

Senior Raigan Kramer scored a game-high 17 points for Seaman while freshman Brooklyn Gormley added 16.

Viking freshman Taylin Stallbaumer and sophomore Carstyn Anderson rounded off the game’s double-digit scorers with 10 points each.

Sophomores Azaryah Duncan and Jazmyn Ford led the Chargers’ offensive effort with 7 points apiece as West ended its season 3-16.

Tinsley said he and his team are looking forward to competing in Friday’s sub-state championship.

The Vikes will square-off against Emporia for the second time in as many weeks. The Spartans narrowly won the last meeting, 37-29.

Emporia routed Newton 62-16 Tuesday.

“We’re zero and zero, that’s our mindset. We have to play every game like it’s the most important of the season,” Tinsley said.
