De Soto jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first three minutes of the game, and with 3:37 left in the opening quarter, the Wildcats led 17-2, only missing one shot up to that point.

De Soto closed out the first quarter shooting 7-12 from the field and led 20-5.

In the second quarter, De Soto extended its lead and had a commanding 44-17 advantage at the half.

“All the credit to them,'' Seaman coach Craig Cox said. "We knew they were good offensively with David Cobin leading the way and so many other guys capable of scoring.  They were on fire and we added to it with some turnovers that led to easy baskets.”

As the second half began, the Vikings defense showed some grit. “Proud of our guys in the second half -- our defense was better in the third quarter,” Cox said.

De Soto only outscored the Vikings 13-11 in the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, De Soto extended the lead to 30, which led to a running clock for the remainder of the game.

“We showed some competitiveness and heart and I told them to forget about it, next week’s a new week and we’ve got to come back and try to be the team we have been previously,” Cox said.

Seaman was led by sophomore KaeVon Bonner with 14 points. Seniors Justin Phillips and Jack Unruh had five rebounds apiece.

De Soto was led by three players in double figures, with Cobin leading all scorers with 20 points.

The Vikings (6-8 overall, 4-6 UKC) will travel to Kansas City next Tuesday for a United Kansas Conference contest against the Turner Bears.
