Shawnee Heights junior swimmer Riccardo Corazza and Seaman freshman basketball player Maddie Gragg have been named the Dan Key Farmers Insurance Agency Rising Stars of the Week for last week.
The Dan Key Agency will recognize top Shawnee County underclassmen throughout the 2022-2023 school year.
Here’s a brief look at the accomplishments of Corazza and Gragg last week:
RICCARDO CORAZZA, Shawnee Heights
Corazza, a foreign exchange student from Milan, Italy, made his high school swimming debut with individual and relay victories in last Wednesday's Topeka West Invitational.
Corazza won the 50-yard freestyle in 22.33, finished second in the 100 freestyle (50.88) and teamed with Luke Perkins, Evan Hoobler and Tanner Zerger to win the 200 free relay in 1:35.27.
Heights' foursome of Corazza, Perkins, Hoobler and Zerger also posted a third-place finish in the meet-opening 200 medley relay (1:42.72).
MADDIE GRAGG, Seaman
A 5-foot-9 freshman, Gragg scored a game-high 17 points in her high school debut to lead three Vikings in double figures as Seaman rolled to a 62-32 victory over then-No. 3-ranked Lansing.
Gragg followed that up with a game-high 16 points Tuesday night as Seaman, ranked No. 3 in Class 5A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, improved to 2-0 with a 60-26 win over city and United Kansas Conference rival Topeka West.
