Topeka West returned from its winter break to face the No. 4-ranked (Class 5A) and United Kansas Conference-leading DeSoto, with the Chargers falling to 4-3 overall and 4-2 in the UKC with the 76-30 loss.

The first quarter was very competitive, with both teams shooting very well from the field. De Soto was 5-8 from the field, including 4-6 from 3-point range and Topeka West shot 5-10 from the field.  The quarter ended with DeSoto leading, 17-12.

The Wildcats continued their hot shooting into the second quarter going 10-15 from the field and 3-4 from long distance.  The Chargers trailed 24-18 midway through the quarter, but DeSoto ended the first half on a 16-1 run and led 40-19 at halftime.

De Soto extended its lead with a dominant third quarter, outscoring Topeka West 20-3, which led to a running clock during the final period.

Topeka West was led by junior Jalen Foy with 8 points, followed by junior Kamoni Ford, senior Johnny Young and sophomore Avalon Ross, all with 4 points apiece.

De Soto had two in double figures, led by senior David Cobin with a school-record 37 points and junior Max Johnson with 10 points.  The Wildcats had eleven players score in the game.

Topeka West will be back in action next Friday when the Chargers travel to Piper.

DE SOTO GIRLS 66, TOPEKA WEST 29

Topeka West returned to action Friday night following the winter break with a United Kansas Conference contest with De Soto, falling 66-29 at West.

Both teams began very sluggish, with the Lady Chargers holding a 2-1 lead for the first three minutes of the game.

But the Wildcats closed the first quarter on a 19-0 run to finish the quarter.

Topeka West settled into the game in the second quarter, but trailed 37-14 at the break.

De Soto extended its lead to 59-28 by the end of the third quarter, which led to a running clock throughout the fourth quarter.

Topeka West was led by sophomore Imani McGlory with 12 points, while freshman Aveah McGlory scored six points and senior Zoe Clark 5. 

Senior Rebecca Bearman led the Lady Chargers with seven rebounds.

DeSoto had three players in double figures, led by junior Makenzie Farmer with 16 points. Senior Amanda Tower added 15 points and senior Violet Conley with 12.

Topeka West (3-4, 3-3 UKC) will be back in action next Friday when it travels to Piper.
