Shawnee Heights junior wrestling standout Madison Freeland and Washburn Rural junior bowler Logan Glinka have been selected by the Dan Key Farmers Insurance Agency as the Rising Stars of the Week.

The Dan Key Agency will recognize top Shawnee County underclassmen throughout the bulk of the 2023-2024 school year.

Here’s a brief look at the accomplishments of Freeland and Glinka over the past week:

MADISON FREELAND, Shawnee Heights

A junior wrestler, Freeland won the 135-pound United Kansas Conference individual championship last Saturday at Shawnee Heights.

Freeland improved to 22-2 on the season with a perfect 3-0 record with three pins.

The T-Bird standout, a Class 6A-5A state runnerup as a sophomore, helped lead Shawnee Heights to its fifth straight UKC team championship.

LOGAN GLINKA, Washburn Rural

Glinka, a junior, bowled a 729 three-game series last Friday, including a 279 game, to earn the boys individual championship in the inaugural Topeka Shawnee County High School Championships at Gage Bowl.

Glinka won the Topeka High triangular with a 729 series earlier last week and also took first place in Wednesday's Washburn Rural quadrangular with a 694 series.

Glinka placed seventh in the Class 6A state meet as a sophomore while helping lead the Junior Blues to the state team championship.
