 Rossville improved to 10-0 while pushing its winning streak to 23 games with a 32-12 win over Nemaha Central in a second-round Class 2A playoff game Friday night at Rossville.

The Bulldawgs trailed the Thunder 6-3 at the end of the opening quarter, but took a 9-6 halftime lead before outscoring Central 23-6 the rest of the way.

Senior Corey Catron had another big night for the Bulldawgs, rushing for three touchdowns and throwing for another TD in the Rossville win.

Catron, who has moved from running back to quarterback after an injury to Torrey Horak, scored on runs of 5, 8 and 2 yards and also completed a 29-yard touchdown pass to Kaden Brown.

Pedro Arantes kicked 24 and 28-yard field goals for the Bulldawgs and also kicked a pair of extra points.

Rossville will be back at home next Friday night to face Riverton (8-2) in a 2A quarterfinal.

Riverton advanced with a 28-22 overtime win over Osage City.

SILVER LAKE 51, ST. MARYS 36 -- After edging St. Marys by a point early in the 2021 season the Eagles and Bears hooked up in a scorefest Friday night, with Silver Lake taking the 51-36 road win in a second-round 2A playoff contest.

With the victory Silver Lake improved to 8-2, advancing to next Friday's state quarterfinals.

Silver Lake will be at home to face 10-0 Wellsville, which rolled to a 49-8 win over Humboldt Friday night.

CAIR PARAVEL LATIN 66, WICHITA HOME SCHOOL 20 -- Cair Paravel ran its record to 10-0 with a 66-20 home romp past Wichita Home School Friday night in a Kansas Christian Athletic Association playoff game.

Lion senior quarterback Carter Brian completed 19 of 31 pass attempts for 421 yards and six touchdowns as Cair Paravel advanced to next Saturday's 2 p.m. KCAA championship gane at Highland Park.

Senior Noah Hastert caught six passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns while junior Jachin Bonura had eight catches for 170 yards and two TDs.

Evan Wills scored three touchdowns Friday night -- two rushing and one pass receiving.

In Saturday's KCAA championship game Cair Paravel will face St. Mary's Academy, a 41-8 winner over the Eagles Friday night.

ROCK CREEK 28, HAYDEN 21 -- Rock Creek rallied from an early 13-0 deficit to advance to the 3A quarterfinals with a 28-21 win at Hayden.

The Wildcats put together a 10-play, 70-yard scoring drive on the first possession, getting a 3-yard scoring run from JC Cummings (Jensen Schrickel kick) with 8:06 left in the opening quarter.

Hayden had another sustained drive -- 13 plays for 71 yards -- late in the first half, scoring on a 7-yard pass from Gavin Arnold to TL Thompson (conversion failed), but Rock Creek got on the board with just 22.7 seconds left in the half, getting a 17-yard TD pass from Dalton Whitworth to Daegan Vinduska (kick good).

Rock Creek took its first lead of the night on its opening drive of the second half, with a big pass play from Whitworth to Vinduska setting up an 11-yard TD from Jaydon Winans with 11:35 leff in the third. The extra point put the Mustangs in front, 14-13.

Hayden answered with a 73-yard touchdown run from Cummings with 10:28 left in the game and Arnold hit Thompson for the 2-point conversion to give the Wildcats a 21-14 advantage.

Rock Creek answered immediately, however, with Whitworth connecting with Ethan Burgess for a 65-yard touchdown (kick good) to tie the game with 10:13 remaining.

Rock Creek then used an eight-play, 50-yard drive to score the game-winning touchdown on a 27-yard pass from Whitworth to Burgess (kick good) with 3:11 left. 

Hayden's late-game bid ended with an interception.

Cummings rushed for 213 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carres while Rock Creek's Whitworth threw for 245 yards and three touchdowns.

Hayden ended its season 8-2 while Rock Creek improved to 7-3 and will travel to Frontenac next Friday for a 3A quarterfinal.

MILL VALLEY 42, SHAWNEE HEIGHTS 7 -- Class 5A power Mill Valley ended Shawnee Heights' season with a 42-7 romp at Mill Valley Friday night.

Shawnee Heights ended its season with a 5-5 record after starting the year 0-3.

Mill Valley (9-1) advanced to a home quarterfinal game next Friday against Blue Valley Southwest (4-6), which topped Seaman, 44-37.
