Seaman's third-ranked (Class 5A) girls basketball team stepped outside the state lines Friday to improve to 3-0 with a 53-15 romp at Savannah, Mo.

Sophomore Anna Becker paced the Vikings with 15 points and seven steals while freshman Maddie Gragg had 12 points and junior Taylin Stallbaumer 9 points, 6 assists and five steals.

Seaman was in complete control by halftime, taking a 32-6 lead.

The Vikings will return to United Kansas Conference competition on Tuesday, traveling to Piper.

WASHBURN RURAL BOYS 64, SHAWNEE MISSION WEST 41 -- Washburn Rural captured the consolation title (fifth place) in the Shawnee Mission East Championship Showdown.with a 64-41 win over Shawnee Mission West, improving to 2-1 on the season.

Washburn Rural will be back in action on Tuesday, playing its home-opener against Shawnee Mission Northwest.

ROSSVILLE GIRLS 70,  SACRED HEART 46 -- Rossville's girls continued their early-season roll, improving to 3-0 with a 70-46 romp past Sacred Heart in the second round of Chapman's Irish Classic.

Rossville had four players crack double figures on the night, led by freshman Rylee Dick with 18 points.

Sophomore Shyanne Haehn added 17 points, junior Katie Spielman 12 and junior Emma Mitchell 11 points for the Bulldawgs.

Rossville led 17-12 at the end of the opening quarter before taking control with a 24-13 second quarter.

The Bulldawgs stretched their advantage  to 23 points by the end of the third quarter (59-36).

Rossville will wrapup play in the Irish Classic on Saturday against tournament host Chapman.

SILVER LAKE BOYS 53, RILEY COUNTY 41 -- Silver Lake picked up its first win of the season, improving to 1-2 with a 53-41 Mid-East League road victory over Riley County. 

The Eagles trailed 13-9 at the end of the first quarter but rallied for a 28-27 lead at the half.

Silver Lake made it a three-point game by the end of the third quarter (38-35) and dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring the Falcons by a 15-6 margin to pull away.

Junior Spencer Johnson led the Eagles with 13 points, going 11 of 13 at the free throw line, while senior Ian Stithem added 10 points and senior Dylan VandeVelde eight.

Silver Lake will host Mid-East League rival St. Marys next Friday.

SILVER LAKE GIRLS 45, RILEY COUNTY 38 -- Silver Lake, ranked No. 2 in Class 3A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, had its first close game of the season but opened up a litle breathing room down the stretch in a 45-38 Mid-East League win over Riley County.

The Eagles and Falcons were tied 11-all at the end of the opening quarter and Silver Lake led by just two points (17-15) at the half.

Riley County was within a point (31-30) at the end of the third quarter before the Eagles closed out the victory with a 14-8 scoring edge over the final eight minutes.

Silver Lake will host Mid-East League rival St. Marys next Friday.
