 Hayden senior Jake Muller and junior Finn Dunshee both earned a pair of gold medals to lead the way as Hayden's boys track and field team qualified in eight events for next week's state meet at Wichita in Friday's Class 4A regional at Shawnee Mission North.

Dunshee won the boys 100-meter dash in 10.98 seconds and Muller won the 300 hurdles in 38.78 seconds while both also teamed with sophomores Liam Stegman and Jensen Schrickel to win the 4x100 relay in 43.00.

Stegman, Muller, Schrickel and Dunshee also qualified for state with a second-place regional finish in the 4x400 relay (3:23.92) while Muller also qualified in the 110 high hurdles with a third-place regional finish (16.01) and Shrickel finished third in the 400 dash (49.83).

Senior Joe Otting qualiied for state in a pair of field events, placing second in the discus at 148 feet, 3 inches and fourth in the javelin (173-6).

Hayden's girls also picked up a regional victory, with junior Natalie Hillibert winning the girls 400 in 58.15 seconds.

Hillebert will compete in three events at state after also helping the Wildcats qualify in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

Hillebert teamed with senior Sarah Schmidt, junior Reagan Huscher and junior Hannah Sams to post a third-place finish in the 4x100 (51.35) and with sophomore Rae North, junior Avery Grunert and sophomore Elliot Wrench to finish third in the 4x400 (4:13.64).

North qualified for state with a fourth-place finish in the 400 (62.79) while freshman Grace Funk finished fourth in the triple jump (31-11.50).

The state meet in all classes will be held in and around Wichita State's Cessna Stadium next Friday and Saturday.

Roeder makes CPLS history 

Sophomore Ben Roeder became the first-ever Cair Paravel Latin athlete to qualify for the state track meet in Friday's Class 2A regional at Valley Heights.

Roeder finished second in the 400-meter dash in 50.70 seconds and second in the 200 dash in 23.54 seconds to earn a trip to Wichita for state.

Roeder competed during the regular season for Topeka High as part of a co-op agreement before competing for CPLS in the regional meet.

Eagles earn state berths in 16 events

Silver Lake's track and field team advanced to the Class 3A state meet in 16 events, with the Eagle girls and boys both qualifying in eight events out of Friday's regional meet at West Franklin High School.

Silver Lake's boys won the 4x100 relay in 44.14 seconds and also got second-place finishes from sophomore Jared Johnson in the high jump (5-foot-10) and from junior Blake Redmond in the long jump (20-7.25).

Eagle senior Troy Heiman and sophomore Trent Rollenhagen both earned state berths in the 100 and 200-meter dashes while sophomore Evan Scheid finished third in the 400 (52.84). Heiman finished third (11.51) and Rollenhagen fourth (11.56) in the 100 and switched spots in the 200, with Rollenhagen taking third (23.78) and Heiman fourth (23.82).

Junior Spencer Johnson qualiied for state in both hurdles races, playing fourth in both the 110-meter highs (15.97) and the 300s (42.81).

Silver Lake sophomore Tessa Gerber finished second in the girls 3,200 meters (12:29.04) while the Eagles also got runnerup finishes from junior Kaibryn Kruger in the triple jump (33-9) and junior Ava Rottinghaus in the javelin (118-5) as well as second-place finishes in the 4x400 (4:15.15) and 4x800 (10:14.60) relays.

Eagle freshman Jaiden Wise placed third in the 200 (27.02) while Kruger also qualified for state with a fourth-place showing in the long jump (15-4.75) and sophomore Ellen Doty placed fourth in the pole vault (8-0).

Rossville senior Amelia Foster qualified for state with a third-place finish in the 800 meters (2:27.92) and a fourth in the 400 (60.27).
