Hayden and Silver Lake did what they needed to do on Monday to put themselves in contention for state girls golf championships.
Now the Wildcats and Eagles will try to finish off their title quests over Tuesday's final 18 holes.
Hayden will take a commanding 13-stroke margin over two-time defending Class 4A state champion Wemgo into Tuesday's final round at Salina Municipal Golf Course while Silver Lake will start the final day of the 3A-1A state tournament at Hesston with an eight-stroke advantage over Colby.
Three of the five Shawnee County schools that qualified their entire teams for state advanced to Tuesday's final day of competition, along with four individual qualifiers.
Washburn Rural advanced to the final round of the 6A state tournament at Emporia Municipal, earning the sixth and final berth by a stroke over Maize.
Regional champion Seaman missed a Day 2 team berth in Class 5A by two spots and Shawnee Heights was 12th after the first state of state competition, but four city golfers advanced as individual competitors..
Here's a class-by-class look at the state tournaments involving Shawnee County teams:
CLASS 6A
Washburn Rural shot a four-person team score of 347 Monday at Emporia Municipal Golf Course, advancing to the second day of the state tournament..
Washburn Rural garnered the sixth and final qualifying berth for Day 2, edging Maize by a single stroke.
Senior Raegan Petersen led the Junior Blues with an 83 and is tied for 14th place entering the final 18 holes of the tournament.
Junior Reece Randall was next in line for Washburn Rural with an 87 while Olivia Smith shot an 88, Natalie Perteson an 89, Colbey Stead a 91 and Kailyn Petersen a 99.
Topeka High senior Avery Zimmerman, playing in her third state tournament, shot a 99 on Monday and came up short of an individual qualifying berth for the final day of state.
CLASS 5A
Seaman and Shawnee Heights were sitting eighth and 12th place in the Class 5A team standings at the conclusion of Monday's opening round at Hutchinson's Carey Park and failed to advance to Day 2 of team competition.
But four city players, including three from Seaman, did advance to Tuesday's final round and will compete for individual state medals.
Topeka West junior Alex Baxter led the city contingent with an 88 to tie for 20th place after the opening 18 holes while Seaman.junior Avery Samuelson advanced to the final 18 holes with a 90 and Makenna Stuke and Kaitlynn Frye both carded 91s to move on. .
Seaman finished eighth after Day 1 at 372, with the top six teams advancing to the final 18 holes, while Shawnee Heights shot a 414.
Jaccyn Bugg led Shawnee Heights with a 100 in Monday's opening round.
CLASS 4A
Hayden will enter Tuesday's final round in the Class 4A tournament at Hesston Golf course with a 13-stroke lead over two-time defending state champion Wamego.
Sophomore Izzy Glotzbach paced Hayden's impressive opening-round performance with a 78 and is tied for eighth place.
Senior Hannah Reynoldson shot an 84 and is tied for 13th while sophomore Lauren Borjon shot an 85 and is tied for 16th place.
Wildcat senior Avery Grunert is tied for 20th after an opening-round 87 while Addyson Baer had an 88 and Kyleigh Johnson a 96.
Hayden finished second to Wamego by 11 strokes in last week's regional tournament at Wamego, but turned the tables Monday at state. Wellington will begin the final round in third place at 356.
CLASS 3A-1A
Continuring its dominant 2023 season, Silver Lake will take an eight-stroke lead over Colby into Tuesday's final round of the Class 3A-1A state tournament at Hesston Golf Course.
Klara Kleinig, a foreign exchange student from Germany, shot an 80 Monday and is in second place individually whle Eagle junior Taylor Zordel is tied for fourth place after an opening 83.
Avri Broxterman shot a 97 on Monday while Madeline Fieger shot a 86, Kailyn Hanni a 98 and Kate Osterhaus a 99.
