Monday's Class 5A boys golf regional at Cypress Ridge was a good day for the city conginent in general and for Shawnee Heights sophomore Alex Valdivia and Seaman's team in particular.
Valdivia shot 1-under-par 70 to win the individual championship by two strokes over United Kansas Conference champ Joey Langstraat of Basehor-Linwood while Seaman rode its depth to the team championship by a 324-328 margin over Shawnee Heights, which also earned a team berth for the 5A state tournament next Monday and Tuesday at Newton's Sand Creek Station Golf Course.
Gavin Wilhelm led the Vikings with a fourth-place individual finish, shooting a 75, while Tim Biggs finished seventh (80), Jake Moss tied for eighth (84) and Reid Cowan tied for 10th (85).
In addition to Valdivia's individual championship, Heights got a sixth-place finish from Aidan Jones (79), while Ethan Rottinghaus shot an 88 and Tyler Peterson a 91 to round out the T-Birds' top four.
Topeka West freshman Myles Alonzo finished third individually with a 73 to lead the individual qualifiers for next week's state tournament.
Basehor-Linwood finished third as a team to garner the final team berth for state.
