Washburn University's women's basketball team has been picked for a sixth-place finish in the MIAA 2021-22 preseason coaches and media polls.
Fort Hays State, the defending MIAA regular-season champion, was tabbed the league favorite in the coaches poll while the Tigers tied with Central Missouri for the top spot in the media poll.
Fort Hays State received six first-place votes in the coaches poll for a total of 159 points, while Central Missouri received three first-place votes and 154 points.
Defending MIAA Tournament champion Nebraska-Kearney was picked No.3 with three first-place votes and 153 points, followed by Emporia State in fourth with two first-place votes and 136 points. Central Oklahoma rounded out the top five.

Washburn, 12-12 last season, was voted sixth and received 106 points, followed by Pittsburg State, Missouri Western, Missouri Southern, Northwest Missouri, Northeastern State, Rogers State, Lincoln and Newman. Missouri Southern tied for the No. 9 spot in the coaches poll and Lincoln and Newman tied for the 13th position.
Fort Hays State and Central Missouri both finished with 118 points in the media poll, with Central Missouri receiving five first-place votes and Fort Hays Stat four.
Nebraska-Kearney followed in third 112 points with Emporia State fourth with 98 points and Central Oklahoma fifth with 87 points.
The media picked Washburn sixth, followed by Pittsburg State, Missouri Western, Northwest Missouri, Missouri Southern, Northeastern State, Rogers State, Newman and Lincoln. Northeastern State and Rogers State tied for 13th in the media poll.

Northwest Missouri State, the 2021 NCAA Division II National Champion and MIAA regular-season champion, was picked first in the 2021-22 MIAA preseason men’s basketball coaches and media polls, with Washburn garnering the No. 2 spot in both polls after winning the MIAA postseason tournament and advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Northwest received 13 of 14 votes in the coaches poll for a total of 169 points while Washburn, 20-7 last season, received the remaining first-place vote and 157 points.

Central Oklahoma was picked third in the poll while Missouri Southern was selected fourth and NCAA tournament qualifier Missouri Western fifth.
Fort Hays State, Rogers State, Pittsburg State, Emporia State and Lincoln rounded out the top 10 in the coaches poll, followed by Central Missouri, Nebraska-Kearney, Northeastern State and Newman.
Northwest Missouri also dominated the media poll, receiving all nine first-place votes and 126 points.

Silver Lake's girls golf team placed all of its top four players in the top 13 places individually en route to a Class 3A-1A regional championship Monday at Council Grove Country Club.
Eagle sophomore Madeline Fieger and freshman Taylor Zordel tied for eighth place individually with 18-hole scores of 101 to pace Silver Lake.
The Eagles also got a 12th-place finish from sophomore Kate Osterhaus (107) and a tie for 13th from Olivia Day (108) to round out their four scorers as Silver Lake edged Council Grove by a 417-419 margin to take the team title.
Rossville finished ninth as a team, led by freshman Jaimie Woodward's 133.
Santa Fe Trail sophomore Braegan Buessing took medalist honors with a 91.
The 3A-1A state tournament will be played next Monday and Tuesday at Hesston Golf Course.

Hayden used a balanced attack to punch its ticket to the Class 4A state girls golf tournament with a second-place regional finish Monday at Clay Center Country Club.

Sophomore Avery Grunert shot a 91 and finished sixth individually to lead the way for the Wildcats while senior Kate Roeder tied for seventh with a 93, junior Ava Teply finished 10th with a 99 and sophomore Hannah Reynoldson shot a 105 to round out Hayden's top four.
Wamego won the team championship with a four-person score of 358 while Hayden was second at 388 and Tonganoxie third at 414.
Eudora's Joellen Vogt took regional medalist honors with an 84.
The 4A state tournament will be contested next Monday and Tuesday at Salina Municipal Golf Course.

Washburn Rural's girls golf team got top-four finishes from senior Aliyah North and junior Avery Scott to lead the way as the Junior Blues claimed a Class 6A regional team championship Monday at Heritage Park Golf Course in Olathe.

North shot an 81 to finish second individually while Scott finished fourth with an 83 for the Junior Blues.
Washburn Rural got got a top-10 finish from sophomore Raegan Petersen, who tied for ninth with an 89 while senior McKenna Merrick tied for 11th with a 92 to round out the Junior Blues' top four as Rural won the team championship by a 345-359 margin over Olathe West.
Topeka High sophomore Avery Zimmerman was the top individual qualifier for the state tournament, tying for 11th with a 92.
The 6A state tournament will be played at Emporia Municipal Golf Course next Monday and Tuesday.
