For the first time since 2006 Washburn University soccer is heading to the NCAA Tournament and is the No. 1 seed in the Central Region.

The Ichabods' second-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament will start with a 6 p.m. first-round game on Friday against No. 8 Ouachita Baptist at Yager Stadium.  

The Ichabods enter the national tournament 16-3-1 overall and captured the MIAA regular-season championship.

This is the first time in program history that Washburn is serving as a host for NCAA postseason play.  

Ouachita Baptist qualifies for the NCAA Tournament after winning the GAC Tournament Championship with a 2-0 win over Oklahoma Baptist.

The Tigers will enter the match with an 11-2-7 overall record and as the lone GAC school to continue its season.

It will be the first-ever matchup between the Tigers and the Ichabods on the soccer field.  

The other first-round regional match between No. 4 seed Minnesota State-Mankato and No. 5 Central Missouri will take place in Yager beginning at 3 p.m. on Friday.

The winners of Friday's games will face off in the second round at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Yager Stadium.
