Cair Paravel Latin, in only its second season competing as a full KSHSAA member in football, finished off a 6-2 regular season with a 74-28 victory over Maranatha Academy.

The Lions, who finished second in Eight-Man I District 2 will host 4-4 Sedan, which finished third in District 1, in a first-round playoff game next Friday (site to be determined)

Senior Jesiah Bonura had a huge game in the Lions' win over Maranatha, compiling 435 all-purpose yards.

Bonura caught four passes for 47 yards and a touchdown, carried the ball five times for 193 yards and two TDs and had four kickoff returns for 195 yards and two scores.

CPLS junior quarterback Jase Pavlik completed nine of 14 passes for 86 yards and five touchdowns and carried the ball five times for 95 yards and a TD.

The winner of Cair Paravel's opening playoff game next week will advance to face the winner of the game between Central-Burden (8-0) and Goessel (1-7).

SHAWNEE HEIGHTS 47, LEAVENWORTH 7 -- Shawnee Heights put the cap on a 6-2 regular season with a 47-7 United Kansas Conference road win at Leavenworth.

With Friday's win Shawnee Heights earned the No. 6 seed in Class 5A East and will be at home to face No. 11 seed Kansas City-Sumner (4-4) in a first-round playoff game.

The winner of next Friday's Heights-Sumner game will advance to the second round of the 5A playoffs to face the winner of the playoff game between Highland Park (6-2) and Kansas City-Harmon (1-7).

ROSSVILLE 64, MAUR HILL-MT. ACADEMY 0 -- Rossville clinched a winning season with its third straight win, rolling to a 64-0 home Class 2A District 3 win over winless Maur Hill-Mt. Academy.

Rossville, which improved to 5-3, put the game out of reach with a 29-point first quarter and led 43-0 at the half and 57-0 at the end of the third quarter..

Bulldawg junior Tayson Horak opened the scoring with a 5-yard touchdown run (Paxton Willett kick) and Rossville also got first-quarter TDs on a 1-yard run from Connor Bush (Seth Catron 2-point run), a 23-yard run from senior Camden Horak (Willett kick) and a 21-yard TD strike from C. Horak to T. Horak (Willett kick).

The Bulldawgs scored second-quarter touchdowns on a 19-yard pass from C. Horak to T. Horak (Willett kick) and a 30-yard return off a blocked punt by Jordan Johnson (Willett kick) and got a 7-yard TD run from Cael Horgan (Willett kick) and a 1-yard score from Johnny Robb (Willett kick) in the third quarter.

Canann Mitchell completed the scoring with a 3-yard fourth-quarter TD run (Willett kick).

Rossville will open its 2A playoff bid at home next Friday, hosting Mid-East League rival Riley County (4-4).

The winner of the Rossville-Riley County playoff game will advance to face the winner of the game between Nemaha Central (8-0) and Pleasant Ridge (2-6).

SILVER LAKE 72, ATCHISON COUNTY 0 -- Silver Lake improved to 7-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in Class 2A District 3 play with a 72-0 rout over Atchison County (4-4).

Silver Lake has now won six straight games, with the Eagles' lone loss coming in Week 2 against 3A unbeaten Hayden.

The district champion Eagles will open postseason at home next Friday against Minneapolis (4-4).

The Silver Lake-Minneapolis winner will advance to play the winner of the first-round playoff contest between Sabetha (7-1) and Atchison County (4-4).

KC-WASHINGTON 28, HIGHLAND PARK 20 -- Highland Park jumped out to a 14-0 first-quarter advantage, but Kansas City-Washington held the Scots to six points the rest of the way, rallying for a 28-20 Meadowlark Conference victory at Hummer Sports Park.

Highland Park (6-2) started its first drive on the Wildcat 9-yard-line after Washington snapped the ball over the punter's head.

The Scots got on the scoreboard on a 1-yard Amari Taylor run and Taylor also scored a 2-point converstion to put Highland Park up 8-0.

Highland Park made the score 14-0 after Ja'Corey Robinson connected with CJ Brown for a 26-yard touchdown pass with 1:09 left in the opening quarter (conversion failed).

Washington (5-3) got on the board on a 9-yard Ja'quarey Williams run with 8:21 left before halftime and Terry Edwards ran for the 2-point conversion.

The Wildcats took a 16-14 lead at the half, scoring on a 5-yard Amarion Womack run with two seonds left before halftime and getting a 2-point conversion from Edwards.

Highland Park's opening drive of the second half produced a 74-yard touchdown pass to Brown (conversion failed) that gave the Scots a 20-16 lead, but Washington got a 3-yard TD run from Edwards (conversion failed) to regain the lead at 22-20.

The Wildcats then iced the game with an 86-yard scoring drive, scoring on a 25-yard fourth-down pass from J. Williams to Shon Williams (conversion failed).

Unofficially, Robinson finished with 124 passing yards while Taylor rushed for 34 yards on nine carries and Jamon Wilson gained 27 yards on six carries.

Despite Friday's loss Highland Park is the No. 3 Class 5A East seed and will be at Hummer Park Friday night to host Meadowlark Conference foe KC-Harmon (1-7).

The winner of that game will advance to face the winner of the first-round playoff game between Shawnee Heights (6-2) and KC-Sumner Academy (4-4).

HAYS 62, TOPEKA HIGH 33 -- Hays improved to 6-2 with its fourth straight victory, taking a 62-33 non-league home victory over Topeka High, which finished a 1-7 regular season.

The Trojans were installed as the No. 14 West seed in Class 6A.

Topeka High will be back on the road next Friday, traveling to Derby (7-1).

The winner of the High-Derby playoff game will meet the winner of the first-round game between Lawrence (6-2) and Dodge City (3-5).
