Two-time defending Class 2A state champion Rossville ended a brief two-game losing streak with a 56-6 District 3 romp past Pleasant Ridge Friday night at Rossville.

With the win Rossville improved to 3-4 overall and 2-1 in the district and can clinch a playoff berth with a win at Maur Hill-Mt. Academy next Friday.

The Bulldawgs put Friday's game away with a 21-point first quarter, went to the locker room with a commanding 35-0 advantage and led 49-0 at the start of the fourth quarter.

Rossville junior quarterback Camden Horak had a big night against the Rams, running for four touchdowns and also passing for a TD.

Senior Braiden Hensley got Rossville on the board at the 9:20 mark of the opening quarter with a 4-yard run and Horak followed with 18 and 32-yard TD runs to put the Bulldawgs up 21-0 at the 2:01 mark of the first stanza. 

Horak added a 5-yard scoring run 50 seconds into the second quarter and he hit Hensley for a 66-yard touchdown pass to end Rossville's first-half scoring with 2:16 left before halftime.

C. Horak and sophomore Tayson Horak scored third-quarter touchdowns on 29 and 3-yard runs before Andre Johnson scored Rossville's final TD on a 15-yard run with 2:34 left to play.

Pleasant Ridge (2-5, 1-3) scored its only points of the night early in the fourth quarter.

Junior Cedric Leistenschneider went eight of eight on extra-point kicks for the Bulldawgs.

WASHBURN RURAL 49, EMPORIA 14 -- Washburn Rural improved to 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the Centennial League with Friday night's 49-14 league romp past Emporia at Bowen-Glaze Stadium, with the Junior Blues strengthening their position for the upcoming Class 6A West playoffs.

The Junior Blues put the Spartans (1-6, 0-3) away early, opening up a 37-0 first-quarter avantage.

Rural junior quarterback Branton DeWeese opened the scoring at the 8:13 mark with a 4-yard run and he also completed a pair of 18-yard TD passes to junior Titan Osburn before freshman TJ Minikwu and senior Ma'kenttis Adams added TD runs from 5 and 51 yards respectively to end the first-quarter onslaught.

Minikwu scored his second TD on a 1-yard run and DeWeese and Osburn hooked up for a 32-yard pass to give Rural a 49-0 halftime advantage.

A running clock was used throughout the second half, with Emporia scoring its two touchdowns on passes from Sheldon Stewart to Jaxon Dial and Parker Leeds.

Washburn Rural will wrap up the regular season at home next Friday against Topeka West while Emporia will host Junction City at Welch Stadium.

HIGHLAND PARK 63, NORTHEAST 0 -- Highland Park ended its two-game losing streak in resounding fashion Friday night, rolling to a 63-0 road win over Kansas City-Northeast, Mo.

Highland Park senior Trey Richardson scored six touchdowns, two on punt returns, two pass receiving and two rushing. Richardson has now had a hand in 40 touchdowns on the season.

Senior A'Ydren Drew-Gregory picked off three passes, with two going for touchdowns.

With Friday's win Highland Park improved to 5-2 on the season. The Scots, who are 4-1 in the Meadowlark Conference, will travel to Kansas City-Washington (3-4, 3-2) next Friday.

With a win Highland Park can assure itself of being at home for the first round of the Class 5A playoffs and maybe more.

SILVER LAKE 54, MAUR HILL-MT. ACADEMY 14 -- Silver Lake ran its winning streak to three games while continuing to set the pace in Class 2A District 3 with a dominating 54-14 win over Maur Hill-Mt. Academy.

The Eagles, 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the district, opened up a commanding 27-0 first-quarter lead over Maur Hill and made the score 54-0 at the half after another 27-0 quarter.

Maur Hill scored its only two touchdowns in the second half after the game had been decided, scoring a TD in the third and fourth quarters.

Silver Lake will travel to Atchison County next Friday to try to wrap up an undefeated district title while Maur Hill will be at home to host Rossville.

HOLTON 37, HAYDEN 13 -- Hayden junior Finn Dunshee returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown, but the rest of the night belonged to Holton, which handed 6-1 Hayden its first loss of the season with a 37-13 district romp at Holton.

Senior Grayson Booth capped a long Holton scoring drive with a 1-yard touchdown to tie the game at 7-7 and Booth scored from 6 yards out to give Holton a 13-7 first-quarter advantage.

Booth's third TD of the night, a 3-yard run, and a successful 2-point conversion from senior Matt Lierz put Holton in front 21-7 and Lierz kicked a 33-yard field goal in the final minute of the half to give the hosts a commanding 24-7 advantage.

Holton, 6-1 overall, 3-0 in Class 3A District 4, extended its lead to 30-7 on a 34 yd pass from Lierz to Booth in the third quarter and Booth scored his fifth touchdown on a 1-yard run to end Holton's scoring.

Dunshee scored his second touchdown of the night on a 26-yard run..

Booth rushed for 231 yards, including 196 in the first half, while Jace Boswell added 138 yards on the ground.

Holton, which has now won six straight games, finished with 474 rushing yards on 72 attempts and 508 total yards.

Hayden will travel to Hiawatha next Friday while Holton will play at Jefferson West.

CHASE COUNTY 54, CAIR PARAVEL LATIN 8 -- Cair Paravel was within 16-8 after a 39-yard first-quarter touchdown pass from Evan Will to Jachin Bonura and a Will 2-point conversion run, but Chase County ran off the next 38 points to end the game at halftime due to the 45-point spread rule. 

Mitchell Budke rushed for 258 yards and five touchdowns for Chase County, which improved to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in Eight-Man Division I District 2.

Will completed nine of 13 passes for 74 yards and the TD to Bonura, who caught six passes for 64 yards.

Cair Paravel, 2-5, 0-4, will be at home next Friday at Highland Park to host Maranatha Academy.

JUNCTION CITY 54, TOPEKA HIGH 12 -- Junction City rolled to a 54-12 home Centennial League victory over Topeka High, improving to 5-2 on the season overall and 2-1 in the league.

Topeka High fell to 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the league, with the Trojans' lone win coming against league foe Emporia.

Topeka High will close out its regular season with a non-league game against Hays next Friday at Hummer Sports Park while Junction City will travel to Emporia.
