Hayden remained undefeated with a 49-0 Class 3A home playoff rout past Baldwin Friday night.

The 9-0 Wildcats advanced to a second-round game next Friday at Hayden against Santa Fe Trail (7-2), which advanced with a 56-40 win over Royal Valley.

Hayden scored the only points it would need on the second play from scrimmage, with junior Jensen Schrickel bursting 62 yards for a touchdown (conversion failed) to put the Wildcats up 6-0 with 11:41 left in the opening quarter.

Sophomore Kade Mitchell started off his big night with a 5-yard TD run that capped an eight-play, 74-yard scoring drive (conversion good) to give Hayden a 14-0 lead with 2:01 left in the first quarter.

Hayden broke the game open in the second quarter, with Dom Ridley scoring on a 9-yard run (Mason Becker kick), Mitchell scoring on a 21-yard run (Becker kick) and Conner Hanika completing a 28-yard touchdown pass to Makhi Kidd (Becker kick) with 2:53 left in the half to give the Wildcats a commanding 35-0 halftime lead.

Mitchell added a 61-yard TD run in the third quarter (Becker kick) and finished the scoring with a 5-yard score midway through the fourth quarter (Becker kick).

Unofficially Mitchell finished with 251 rushing yards and his four TDs on just 10 carries.

Ridley added 67 rushing yards on six carries while Broderick Desch had six carries for 36 yards.

Hayden quarterback Jett Wahlmeier was 3 of 4 passing for 73 yards before leaving the game in the first quarter. Hanika went 5 of 7 passing for 58 yards

Hayden's defense held Baldwin to 11 total yards of offense in the first half.

CAIR PARAVEL LATIN 62, SEDAN 12 -- Cair Paravel Latin picked up its first-ever KSHSAA playoff win, rolling to a 62-12 Eight-Man Division I first-round win over Sedan Friday night at Seaman in a game that ended at halftime due to the 45-point spread rule.

Cair Paravel, now 7-2 on the season, will go on the road next Friday to face Central-Burden, a 60-12 first-round winner over Goessel.

SEAMAN 62, KC-WASHINGTON 12 -- Seaman improved to 5-4 on the season with a 62-12 road romp in the first round of the Class 5A playoffs at Kansas City-Washington.

Seaman posted its second straight win while advancing to a second-round 5A playoff game next Friday at De Soto (8-1).

DeSoto advanced with a 57-6 win over KC-Turner Friday night. The Wildcats and Vikings are both members of the United Kansas Conference, but did not meet in the regular season.

SILVER LAKE 58, MINNEAPOLIS 7 -- Silver Lake advanced to the second round of the Class 2A playoffs with its seventh straight win, rolling to a 58-7 home decision over Minneapolis.

Silver Lake improved to 8-1 on the season, with the Eagles' lone loss coming in Week 2 against undefeated 3A Hayden.

With Friday's win Silver Lake will be back at home next Friday to host Sabetha, a 71-6 winner over Atchison County. The Blue Jays are also 8-1 on the season.

MILL VALLEY 63, TOPEKA WEST 6 -- Topeka West ended its season at 1-8, with the Chargers dropping a 63-8 road decision to defending Class 5A champion Mill Valley in a first-round playoff game.

Mill Valley improved to 7-2 and advanced to a second-round matchup with Spring Hill, a 63-14 winner over Leavenworth. Mill Valley will host that game.

DERBY 56, TOPEKA HIGH 7 -- Perennial Class 6A power Derby ended Topeka High's season for the second straight year, with the Panthers rolling to a 56-7 home win in the opening round of the 6A playoffs.

Derby improved to 8-1, with its lone loss coming against reigning state champion Manhattan in the season-opener, while Topeka High finished 1-8.

Derby advances to host Lawrence (7-2), which edged Dodge City, 23-20, on Friday.

RILEY COUNTY 28, ROSSVILLE 7 -- Riley County defeated Rossville for the second time this season, this time in a Class 2A playoff game.

The Falcons and Bulldawgs were tied late in the opening quarter before Riley County scored on a 2-yard run with nine seconds left in the quarter to take the lead for good.

Riley County added a pair of touchdowns in the second quarter, on a 97-yard TD run at the 5:01 mark and a 27-yard pass with 49 seconds left before halftime to end the scoring.

Senior quarterback Cameden Horak scored Rossville's lone touchdown on a 21-yard run (Paxton Willett kick).

The Bulldawgs finished their season 5-4 while Riley County, also 5-4, advances to a second-round playoff game at Nemaha Central (9-0) next Friday night.

Nemaha Central advanced with a 48-0 win over Pleasant Ridge.
