Silver Lake softball rolled to an 11-1, 12-3 Mid-East League sweep over Riley County on Tuesday, getting a one-hit pitching performance and a home run from sophomore Avery Wende in the opener and 13 extra-base hits on the day.

Wende gave up just one single, struck our seven and did not issue a walk in the first game while hitting a three-run homer, while Kira Lowrey went 2 for 4 with a homer and four runs batter in, Hailey Horton went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and Makenzie McDaniel also went 3 for 4.

Taylor Zordel went 2 for 4 with a double and and a homer while Kaibryn Kruger had a triple and Taryn Burkhardt a double in the first game.

Silver Lake and Riley County were locked in a 1-1 tie before the Eagles exploded for nine runs in the fifth and a run in the sixth to end the contest.

The Eagles never trailed in the second game after scoring four runs in the first inning and added a pair of runs in the second and fourth innings and four runs in the sixth.

Kendra Cook went the distance for the pitching win in the nightcap, allowing eight hits and two earned runs.

Zordel and Lauren Rollenhagen tripled for Silver Lake, while Burkhardt, Horton, Zordel and Lowrey had doubles.

State champ Boline to sign with Lindenwood

Washburn Rural Class 6A state wrestling champion Aidan Boline is scheduled to sign a national letter of intent with Lindenwood University at 10:35 a.m. Thursday in the Rural student cafeteria, one of four Junior Blues slated to sign college letters.

Also scheduled to sign are Noah Ekis with Southeastern Community College and Jonah Molina with William Penn in soccer and Tessa McKee with William Penn in women's wrestling.

Boline was a four-year participant and letter-winner in wrestling for the Junior Blues, winning the 160-pound state title as a senior. He was a member of the Rural teams that earned three Centennial League titles, three regional titles and two 6A state championships. He placed fith individually at state in 2021.

Boline is an honor student with a grade point average of 3.5. 

The son of Darin and Sonya Boline, Aidan plans to major in exercise science.

Ekis was a four-year participant and a three-year varsity letter-winner in soccer for the Junior Blues.

A defender, Ekis played on the 2021 Rural team that was the 6A state runner-up and received All-City honorable mention.

He is undecided on a major.

Noah is the son of Ron and Stacy Ekis.

McKee is a one-year varsity letter winner for the Rural women’s wrestling team, which placed second in the 6A state championships this past season.

McKee is an honor roll student with a 3.5 GPA.She has also been involved with NHAS and the chess club at Rural.

She plans to major in Elementary Education. Tessa is the daughter of Lorry Lingenfleter.

Molina was a four-year participant and two-year letter winner for the Junior Blues soccer team.  He has played forward, midfield and goalie.

Molina has been a part of four Centennial League titles and was a member of the team that finished as the 6A runner-up last fall and fourth in 2020.

He was also a member of the baseball team his freshman and sophomore years. He plans to major in pre-law.

Jonah is the son of Joseph and Malessa Molina.

RURAL SOCCER OUTLASTS CAROLL IN 2 OT

Washburn Rural was pushed two a second overtime period Tuesday night before taking a 2-1 non-league soccer win over Bishop Carroll at McElroy Field.

The Junior Blues got goals rom Kate Hinck and Mackinly Rohn while Rohn and Emma Krueger were credited with assists.

With Tuesday's victory, the Junior Blues improved to 9-1-0.

Shawnee Heights improved to 6-1-0 on the season with a 10-0 United Kansas Conference soccer romp past Turner.

VIKING BASEBALL PUSHES WIN STREAK TO EIGHT

Seaman took a 3-0, 12-1 Centennial League doubleheader sweep over Junction City, improving to 10-1 on the season.

With Tuesday's wins, the Vikings have now won eight games in a row.

Topeka High topped Emporia 8-1, 11-1 in a Centennial League baseball twinbill Tuesday, pushing its win streak to three games after snapping a seven-game losing streak.

Shawnee Heights climbed above .500 on the season with an 8-0 United Kansas Conference victory over Leavenworth.

The T-Birds are now 7-6 on the year.

Hayden improved to 4-5 on the season with a 17-0, 16-0 Centennial League doubleheader sweep over Highland Park Tuesday night.

T-BIRD SOFTBALL ROUTS TURNER

Shawnee Heights' softball team ended a brief two-game losing streak with a 15-0, 16-1 United Kansas Conference sweep over Turner.

The T-Birds are now 7-4 on the season.

Washburn Rural improved to 11-1 on the season with a 4-0, 6-1 Centennial League twinbill sweep over Topeka West on Tuesday.

The Junior Blues have now won straight games since a loss to Gardner-Edgerton.

Topeka High improved to 10-2 Tuesday night with a 12-1, 11-0 Centennial League sweep over Emporia.

Seaman remained undefeated on the season at 6-0 with a 15-0, 17-6 Centennial League doubleheader sweep over Junction City on Tuesday.
