 Washburn Rural continued its perfect 2021 season Tuesday night, opening postseason with a 7-0 Class 6A regional romp past Wichita Northwest.

The Junior Blues, now 16-0-0 on the year, got two goals apiece from junior Easton Bradstreet and senior Porter Schafersman while junior Ty Stead, senior Mason Grogan and senior Jonah Molina added a goal apiece.

Schafersman also contrbuted a pair of assists for Rural, while sophomore Devon Rutschmann, junior Jaxon Padilla and junior Cayden Lee were also credited with assists.

Senior Wyatt Arnold and sophomore Ethan Uhlrig combined for the shutout in goal for the Junior Blues against Northwest, which ended its season 6-12-0.

Rural, which captured its 27th straight Centennial League title this fall, advances to a regional final on Thursday, hosting Wichita East at McElroy Field.

Wichita East (9-7-1) advanced with a 2-1 win over Hutchinson.

-- Topeka High, which beat Wichita Southeast 2-1 on Monday, will also be in a 6A regional final Thursday, traveling to Dodge City to face the defending 6A state champs.

The Trojans are 9-6-2 while the Red Demons are 16-0-1 after a 7-0 win over Wichita West Tuesday night.

HEIGHTS TOPS HIGHLAND PARK, 1-0

Shawnee Heights got a tough test from city rival Highland Park Tuesday night, but the T-Birds advanced to a 5A regional final with a 1-0 win over the Scots at the Bettis Family Sports Complex.

Heights, which improved to 15-2-0, scored its lone goal in the first half on a shot from junior Jordan Garvin and the T-Birds were able to keep the Scots off the scoreboard the rest of the way. Highland Park, which beat Kansas City-Schlagle 9-3 in a Monday play-in game, finished its season 6-11-1.

Shawnee Heights will now host perennial state power St. Thomas Aquinas in a Thursday regional final at Bettis, with the Saints (12-4-1) advancing with an 8-0 win over Pittsburg/Colgan.

-- Seaman had its season ended by Bishop Carroll Tuesday night, with the Eagles taking a 3-0 home win over the Vikings, who finished the season with a 4-12-1 record.

Bishop Carroll improved to 12-4-1.

HAYDEN TO HOST INDEPENDENCE

Hayden, which outlasted Cair Paravel Latin 1-0 in penalty kicks Monday, will be back at home Thursday (4 p.m.) to host Independence in a 4A-1A regional final.

Independence is 11-4-2 after a 2-1 win over Berean Academy Tuesday while Hayden is 12-5-0.
