Washburn Rural’s Lady Blues improved to 7-1 on the season with a 70-25 Centennial League win at Topeka West Tuesday night, with junior Emma Krueger leading the way with 17 points while also grabbing 8 rebounds.

Rural put its foot on the gas in the first quarter and never let up, scoring 26 points in the first eight minutes.

Scoring in transition and out-rebounding the Chargers by a margin of 26 to 12 in the first half helped Rural open up a commanding 45-12 advantage at halftime. Sophomore Brooklyn DeLeye snagged 9 boards for the Blues and added 11 points.

Rural’s freshmen also came up big in the Centennial League matchup.

Although starter Zoe Canfield struggled from the field going 1 for 8, she was still a heavy contributor on the offensive end with multiple assists. Jada Ingram came off the bench to contribute 11 points and 9 rebounds..

Sophomore MaRyah Lutz was another bright spot on offense as the fourth double-digit scorer for Rural with 14 points while hitting 4 3-pointers.

Just as impressive as their 70-point offensive effort was the Lady Blues’ defense. The Chargers had difficulty getting the ball inside from start to finish, committing 19 turnovers in the game. Freshman Saniya Triplett was West’s leading scorer with 7 points.
