Washburn Rural senior cross country standout Brooks Kehoe turned in a very solid performance in Saturday's Shufelberger Top City Classic at Rural, pacing all city runners with a third-place finish.

But Kehoe thought the day could have been even better.
Kehoe clocked a five-kilometer time of 16 minutes, 25.5 seconds as Shawnee Mission West junior Kallan Horveath won in 16:07.2 and Junction City junior Anthony Testa was second in 16:08.8.
Kehoe led at one point in the race before Horveath and Testa pulled away late.
"It was an alright race,'' Kehoe said. "I think I fell back a little bit more than I should have in my third mile. l let Kallan and Anthony get ahead of me and I kind of let them get away a little bit too much.
"It's all just learning though and trying to get back in that racing mindset before state.''
Kehoe was one of three Junior Blues to post top-10 finishes, with sophomore Clayton Fink placing sixth in 16:36.0 and sophomore Duke Graf finishing 10th in 16:50.4 as Rural finished second as a team to Olathe West (53-58).
Rural sophomore Jaxson Adams finished 14th (17:19.0) while Shawnee Heights senior Max Esquibel placed 15th (17:19.6) and Hayden sophomore Nick Newkirk was 16th (17:20.8).
Seaman senior Brody Anderson and Washburn Rural sophomore Henry Laubach did not run Saturday.

The Junior Blues finished third as a team in the girls race, with Rural senior Emily Graf finishing a city-best fifth in 19:15.0.
Seaman junior Brynn Spencer placed ninth in 19:30.1 while Rural freshman Alyson Hinck also posted a top-10 finish, taking 10th in 19:37.7.
Senior Kenzie Maddox was 12th (19:58.3) as Washburn Rural finished with 61 points as Shawnee Mission East won the team title with 37 points and Olathe West was second with 52 points.
Hayden's lone entry, junior Sofia Harper, placed 16th in 20:22.8.
Seaman senior Ryin Miller did not compete Saturday as she continues to recover from an injury.
