Class 3A state champion Silver Lake, 4A runnerup Hayden and state qualifiers Washburn Rural in 6A and Rossville in 2A combined to put 12 players on the TopSports.news 2025 All-Shawnee County volleyball first team.

Silver Lake, which went 46-1 and ended its season on a 37-match winning streak, is represented on the all-county  team by senior Jaiden Wise, juniors Kylie Hanni and Jaylie Whitehead and sophomore Karys Deiter, with Hanni named the county player of the year and Eagles coach Sarah Johnson tapped as the coach of the year.  

Hayden, which placed second at state after finishing third in 2024, is represented on the first team by sophomore repeat picks Hailey Schmidtlein and Blakely Walter along with senior Ella Foster, a multi-time all-county selection.

Washburn Rural is represented on the all-county first team by seniors Karsyn Horyna and Stella Kelly and freshman Brynn Anderson, who was named the Shawnee County newcomer of the year after the Junior Blues won the Centennial League championship and advanced to the 6A state tournament for the ninth straight season.

Horyna is a first-team All-Shawnee County repeat pick while Kelly was a second-team pick as a junior.

Rossville junior Nora Burdiek is a first-team all-county repeat pick and is joined on the first team by freshman Kenna Perine.

Rounding out the first team are Cair Paravel Latin senior Karsyn Hastert, Topeka West junior Sydney Van Dyke and Shawnee Heights senior Avery Willey.

BRYNN ANDERSON, Washburn Rural

Anderson, a 5-foot-11 freshman leftside hitter, was named the Shawnee County newcomer of the year after helping lead the Junior Blues to the Centennial League championship and a ninth straight Class 6A state tournament berth. Anderson registered 397 kills on the season along with 20 block kills, 96.3 percent serving with 29 aces and 229 digs.

NORA BURDIEK, Rossville

A junior hitter, Burdiek is an All-Shawnee County first-team repeater after being named the county newcomer of the year and earning second-team honors as a freshman. Burdiek has registered 1,373 total kills in her career with 936 digs. Burdiek was a first-team All-Big East selection after helping lead the Bulldawgs to a Class 2A state berth and earning All-State Tournament recognition from the Kansas Volleyball Association.

KARYS DEITER, Silver Lake

Deiter, a sophomore hitter, helped lead the Eagles to the Class 3A state championship with a 46-1 record, including a 37-match winning streak to end the 2025 season. Deiter finished the year with 313 kills, a 34.7 kill percentage, 18 blocks and 253 digs. Deiter received All-Big East honorable mention this fall.

ELLA FOSTER, Hayden

A multi-time All-Shawnee County honoree, the senior libero helped lead the Wildcats to a runnerup finish in the Class 4A state tournament after a third-place state showing in 2024. Foster recorded 400 digs on the season while posting a perfect rating on 239 serve receive passes. Foster finished her high school career with 1,471 digs.  

KYLIE HANNI, Silver Lake

A junior setter, Hanni was named the TSN Shawnee County Player of the Year after helping lead Silver Lake to the Class 3A state championship with a 46-1 record, including 37 straight wins to end the season. Hanni was named to the 3A All-State Tournament team by the Kansas Volleyball Association and was also a first-team All-Big East League pick after registering 1,181 assists, with 45 kills, 22 blocks, a 91.7 serving percentage with 33 aces and 174 digs.

KARSYN HASTERT, Cair Paravel Latin

Hastert, a senior middle hitter and a team captain for Cair Paravel, finished the 2025 season with 367 kills and a .280 hitting percentage in just 73 sets, averaging 5.0 kills per set. A first-team All-Flint Hills League pick, Hastert also recorded 45 service aces and finished her high school career with more than 1,000 kills.

KARSYN HORYNA, Washburn Rural

Horyna, a 5-11 senior middle hitter, earned a spot on the All-Shawnee County team for the second straight season after helping lead Washburn Rural to the Centennial League championship and a ninth straight Class 6A state tournament appearance. Horyna registered 200 kills with a .255 kill percentage and 29 block hills.

STELLA KELLY, Washburn Rural

A 5-10 senior setter, Kelly recorded 886 assists this fall and surpassed the 2,000 assist milestone for her career while also finishing the season with 273 digs, 15 block kills, a 98.1 serving percentage (254 of 259) and 22 aces. Kelly helped lead the Junior Blues to the Centennial League championship and a ninth straight Class 6A state tournament berth.

KENNA PERINE, Rossville

Perine, a setter, is one of just two freshmen on the All-Shawnee County first team after helping lead Rossville to a Class 2A state tournament appearance. Perine finished the 2025 season with 982 assists, 288 digs and 64 kills for the Bulldawgs. Perine was a second-team All-Big East League first-team selection.

HAILEY SCHMIDTLEIN, Hayden

A sophomore hitter, Schmidtlein earned All-Shawnee County first-team recognition for the second straight season after helping lead the Wildcats to a second-place finish in the Class 4A state tournament and earning All-State Tournament honors for the second straight year. Schmidtlein led the Wildcats with 492 kills on .330 hitting, giving her 932 kills in just two seasons, and also contributed 296 digs with 54 blocks and 47 service aces.

SYDNEY VAN DYKE, Topeka West

Van Dyke, a junior outside hitter, earned first-team All-United Kansas Conference recognition this fall for the Chargers after registering more than 260 kills and 230 digs. Van Dyke recorded 58 kills on .269 hitting with 77 digs and 14 service aces in Topeka West's UKC matches. Van Dyke moves up to the All-Shawnee County first team after earning second-team honors as a sophomore.

BLAKELY WALTER, Hayden

A sophomore setter, Walter earned All-Shawnee County first-team recognition for the second straight season after helping lead the Wildcats to a second-place finish in the Class 4A state tournament and earning All-State Tournament honors in 4A for the second straight season. Walter registered 1,052 assists this fall, giving her more than 2,000 in her two high school seasons, and also had 282 digs and 39 service aces on the season.

JAYLIE WHITEHEAD, Silver Lake

Whitehead, a junior libero, helped lead Silver Lake to the Class 3A state championship with a 46-1 record, including 37 straight wins to end the season. Whitehead was named to the 3A All-State Tournament team by the Kansas Volleyball Association and was also a first-team All-Big East League pick after recording 531 digs and 39 assists while serving 94.6 percent with 43 aces on the season.

AVERY WILLEY, Shawnee Heights

A senior, Willey was elected a team captain by her Shawnee Heights teammates, earned first-team All-United Kansas Conference recognition and a spot on the All-Shawnee County first team for the first time in her career. Willey finished her high school career with more than 500 kills and 500 digs in her career while recording 250 kills with 14 blocks and serving 95 percent this fall with 27 aces.

JAIDEN WISE, Silver Lake

Wise, a senior, helped lead Silver Lake to the Class 3A state championship with a 46-1 record, including 37 straight wins to end the season. Wise was named to the 3A All-State Tournament team by the Kansas Volleyball Association and was also a second-team All-Big East League pick after recording 407 kills and 19 blocks on .378 hitting with 296 digs and 22 assists while serving 84.7 percent with 29 aces on the season.
