Seaman's boys basketball team continues to make a tough 2019-20 season a distant memory, adding to its resurgence with a 53-27 home Centennial League romp past rival Hayden Friday night.
Just 2-19 a year ago, Seaman improved to 8-8 overall and 7-6 in the Centennial League with Friday's wire-to-wire win, forcing a running clock in the fourth quarter after taking a 50-18 advantage at the end of the third.
Junior Casen Stallbaumer led Seaman with 15 points, including four 3-pointers, while junior Ty Henry added 10 points and sophomore Aron Davis 9.
Sophomore Joe Otting led Hayden (4-11, 3-9) with 10 points, the lone Wildcat with more than 5 points.
SEAMAN GIRLS 43, HAYDEN 32
Seaman avenged a 1-point loss to Hayden earlier in the season while continuing a resurgence of its own with its third victory over its last four games.
Freshmen Taylin Stallbaumer and Brooklyn Gormley had big games for Seaman (6-9 overall, 6-6 in the Centennial League), with Stallbaumer leading the Vikings with 13 points while Brooklyn Gormley added 11.
Hayden (7-8, 6-6) was in the hunt most of the way, trailing by 2 at the half and by 7 at the end of the third quarter, but the Wildcats were unable to make a late charge.
Senior Rhen Calhoon led Hayden with a game-high 14 points.
TOPEKA WEST BOYS 77, JUNCTION CITY 62
Topeka West, ranked No. 7 in Class 5A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, rode a huge 52-point half to a 20-point halftime advantage and fought through a second-half Junction City rally to protect its two-game lead in the Centennial League race.
Topeka West (13-2, 10-1) took command in a 28-11 first quarter and was never in serious trouble although Junction City (7-9, 5-8) did get as close as six.
Junior Elijah Brooks and seniors Marque Wilkerson and Trevion Alexander combined for 64 points, with Elijah Brooks leading all scorers with 28 points while Wilkerson added 21 and Alexander 15.
Senior Chris Dixon scored 20 points to pace Junction City.
JUNCTION CITY GIRLS 39, TOPEKA WEST 35
Topeka West (2-12, 1-10) put itself in position to challenge for its third win of the season when its opened up a 23-21 halftime advantage, but Junction City (6-11, 4-9) used a 9-4 third quarter to take a 30-27 lead and fought off the Chargers down the stretch.
Seniors Mellana Davis and Lucy Rivera scored 19 and 16 points for Junction City while Topeka West had 11 players crack the scorng column, but none with more than 5 points.
LANSING GIRLS 45 , SHAWNEE HEIGHTS 42 OT
Shawnee Heights (4-9, 2-4) had United Kansas Conference-leading Lansing (12-2, 6-0) on the ropes, but the Lions, No. 6-ranked in 5A, pulled out the win on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of the first overtime.
The T-Birds trailed by just a 20-19 margin at the half and forced overtime with a 3-pointer by senior Tatum Brown.
Brown and senior Adysen Burghart scored 11 points apiece to lead Shawnee Heights.
LEBO BOYS 73, CAIR PARAVEL LATIN 68 (2 OT)
Cair Paravel Latin's upset bid against Class 1A Division I power Lebo came up just short, with the 14-3 Wolves pulling out the 5-point win in double overtime.
Lebo, No. 6-ranked by the KBCA, got 25 points from Deven McEwen and 20 from Landon Grimmett, with the pair combining for 10 3-pointers on the night.
Cajr Paravel junior Zach Clark tied McEwen for game-high scoring honors with 25 points while sophomore Luke Fay added 18 as the Lions fell to 9-7.
LEBO GIRLS 43, CAIR PARAVEL 28
Junior Jaley Barkley scored a game-high 26 points for Cair Paravel Latin (6-7), but the Lions were unable to keep pace with Lebo, which opened up a 29-16 halftime lead.
Lebo (13-4) got 12 points from Audrey Peek, 11 from Katie Ott and 10 from Alli Moore. The Wolves are ranked seventh in 1A Division I.
SILVER LAKE GIRLS 61, ROSSVILLE 32
Silver Lake trailed rival Rossville 11-9 after one quarter, but the Eagles used a 20-4 second quarter to build a 29-15 halftime advantage and outscored the Bulldawgs 32-17 in the second half.
Freshman Makenzie McDaniel led Silver Lake (8-8) with 18 points while sophomore Mariah Farmer added 12 points and freshman McKinley Kruger 11.
Freshman Kinsey Perine led Rossville (4-9) with 9 points.
ROSSVILLE BOYS 45, SILVER LAKE 33
Rossville built a 22-19 halftime advantage and held the Eagles at bay with a 23-14 second-half scoring edge.
Sophomore Kade Perine led Rossville (1-13) with 13 points while 8 Bulldogs scored at least 3 points.
Sophomore Kamryn Kaniper led Silver Lake (5-11) with 13 points while junior Luke Womack added 10 points.
