Washburn University’s men’s and women’s track and field teams will be back in action Saturday and Sunday, hosting the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility.

Twelve MIAA teams will compete in the women’s division while 11 men’s teams will compete.

Washburn’s women are coming off a strong performance in the Ichabod Invitational, recording 12 personal bests, its first NCAA automatic qualifier of the season, a school record and three more NCAA provisional qualifiers.

Virgo Scardanzan won the women’s pole vault with an NCAA Automatic Qualifying height  of 13 feet, 3.75 inches. (4.06 meters).

Scardanzan’s mark is the third-best height in NCAA Division II this season.

Washburn’s men recorded 13 personal-bests, two school records and three NCAA Provisional marks at the Ichabod Invitational, WU’s final tuneup before the MIAA indoor.

Connor Last finished first in the long jump with a jump of mark of 23-11.50 (7.30 meters, recording an NCAA provisional mark and setting the Washburn record.

Former Washburn Rural Class 6A state champion Zac Chandler finished second in the pole vault with a school-record 16-foot clearance (4.88 meters), recording an NCAA Provisional mark.

Entering the final weekend to qualify for the NCAA Division II Championships, the Ichabod men's and women's squads have 12 provisional qualifiers for the NCAA Indoor Championships. 

The Ichabods will wait to find out after the MIAA Indoor Championships who and how many will compete at the NCAA Division II Championships March 12-13 in Birmingham, Alabama.
