The Washburn Ichabods opened the 2021 MIAA Basketball Championships in impressive fashion, rolling to a 78-59 quarterfinal win over Rogers State Wednesday night in Lee Arena.
With the victory the 17-6 Ichabods advanced to face Missouri Western in a 7:30 p.m. semifinal Friday in Maryville, Mo.

The Ichabods trailed 3-2 for a total of 16 seconds before jumping out to a 14-8 lead after hitting 3 of their first 4 3-pointers of the game.
After the Hillcats (11-12) trimmed the lead back to 4 points with 8:09 left in the first half, Washburn used a 16-9 scoring edge to build a 38-27 halftime advantage.
The Ichabods began the second half with a 13-0 run to go in front 51-27 and led by as many as 28 points (57-29) with 14:49 to go
Two-time All-MIAA first-teamer Tyler Geiman led all scorers with 22 points (9 of 12 from the field) and added 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Tyler Nelson and Jalen Lewis both added 16 points and Connor Deffebaugh had 10 off the bench.

Brewster Peacock, Devin Pullum and Destin Eke each scored 10 points each to lead the Hillcats.
Missouri Western earned its spot in the tournament semifinals with an 84-76 overtime win over Lincoln.
