Silver Lake’s boys and girls basketball teams finished off their appearances in the Burlington Invitational with a pair of third-place finishes.
Silver Lake’s boys edged Independence 48-42 while the Lady Eagles rolled to a 59-33 win over the Bulldogs.
The Silver Lake boys, who improved to 5-5, were locked in a 19-all tie with the Bulldogs at the half, but took a 2-point advantage (30-28) into the fourth quarter and outscored Indy 18-14 down the stretch.
Silver Lake, which won for the fourth time in its last five games, had three double-figure scorers, with sophomore Kamryn Kaniper scoring 16 points with 4 3-pointers while senior Dawson Wyre added 14 and senior Andrew Osterhaus 10 points.
Independence, which fell to 1-9, was led by Easton Ewing's 10 points.
Silver Lake’s girls, 5-4 on the season, broke open their game against Independence with a 22-10 second quarter and turned the contest into a rout with a 22-4 third quarter, opening up a 56-24 advantage.
Freshman Makenzie McDaniel led four players in double figures for the Eagles with 14 points while sophomore Taylor Ross added 13 points and sophomore Lexis Berndt and freshman McKinley Kruger 12 each.
Abby Veile led 6-4 Independence with 16 points.
WICHITA NORTHWEST BOYS 54, SEAMAN 44
Seaman’s boys managed just 17 points in the second half of Saturday’s Valley Center January Jam finale, as Wichita Northwest rallied for a 54-44 win over the Vikings.
The Vikings, who fell to 4-5, led 27-25 at the half, but 8-4 Northwest outscored Seaman 11-5 in the third quarter and 29-17 in the second half to take control.
Seaman, which was hampered by 23 turnovers, was led by junior Ty Henry’s 13 points, while Mateo Hyman added 9 points and Kaeden Bonner 8.
Senior David Duncan scored 13 points to lead Wichita Northwest while Geremiah Moore and Braydon Verbeck added 10 apiece.
MANHATTAN BOYS 62, SHAWNEE HEIGHTS 55
Coming off an overtime win over the host team in the McPherson Invitational on Thursday, Shawnee Heights faltered in the second half of Saturday’s game, with Manhattan rallying for a 62-55 victory.
Shawnee Heights led by 6 points (29-23) at the half, but 3-3 Manhattan took control with a 22-7 third quarter.
Senior Harvey Davis paced Shawnee Heights (4-4) with 15 points while Isiah Johnson added 11 despite a tough shooting night.
Senior Owen Braxmeyer and junior Cade Perkins scored 16 points apiece to lead Manhattan while sophomore Cameron Carr added 12.
