Shawnee Heights' girls basketball team was able to stay within striking distance of top-ranked and undefeated Topeka High through the first half Thursday night before the Trojans pulled away for a 71-28 win at Shawnee Heights with a dominating second half. 

Shawnee Heights was within 3 points early in the second quarter and was down by a 30-20 margin at the half before the Trojans outscored the T-Birds 41-8 in the second half to improve to 9-0 on the season.

Junior NiJaree Canady scored 16 of her game-high 28 points in the first half while senior Lilly Smith added 16 points and 4 3-pointers and sophomore Kiki Smith 11 points and 3 3s.

Senior Tatum Brown and freshman Breezy Canady scored 7 points apiece for Shawnee Heights (3-5) while senior Taylor Hawkins added 6 points on a pair of 3-pointers.

Topeka HIgh travels to Newton to face Kapaun Mt. Carmel Friday while Shawnee Heights will play at Washburn Rural.

WICHITA LIFE PREP GIRLS 38, SEAMAN 36

Seaman (3-5) fell just short against Wichita Life Prep Thursday night, dropping a 38-36 decision.

The Vikings held a 26-22 advantage af the end of the third quarter, but struggled offensively the rest of the way as the Fire pulled out the win.

Senior Raigan Kramer and freshman Taylin Stallbaumer paced Seaman with 9 points each, while Ann Mary Zachariah led 11-3 Life Prep with 13 points.

FREE STATE GIRLS 72, TOPEKA WEST 46

Free State pulled away in the second half for a 72-46 victory over Topeka West.

The Chargers were tied 13-13 at the end of the first quarter and down just 34-25 at halftime, but Free State outscores West 38-21 in the second half.

Sophomore Jazmyn Ford led 2-9 Topeka West with 10 points..

Senior Shannon Clarke scored a game-high 26 points for the 3-4 Firebirds.

HIAWATHA GIRLS 62, HIAWATHA 24

Hiawahta put 0-9 Highland Park away early Thursday night in the Hiwatha tournament, with the host Red Hawks leading 19-7 after one quarter and 31-11 at the half.

Hiawatha (5-3) outscored the Scots 31-13 in the second half as Highland Park was held to 7 or fewer points in all four quarters.

Junior Aisya Taylor scored 11 points to lead Highland Park.

MANHATTAN BOYS 70, SEAMAN 55

Manhattan outscored Seaman 21-6 in the fourth quarter to turn a tie game into a 70-55 home Centennial League victory.

Seaman, which fell to 5-6 overall and 4-4 in the league, had an up and down night, leading 21-14 at the end of the first quarter and trailing 31-26 at the half.

Junior Ty Henry led Seaman with 15 points while senior Micah Kobuszewski had 11 points.

Sophomore Cameron Carr led Manhattan, 4-4 overall and 3-2 in the league, with 17 points while senior Owen Braxmeyer added 13 and junior Cade Perkins 11.
