Topeka West's first United Kansas Conference boys tennis tournament performance will be impossible to surpass and hard to equal.

After all, you can't beat perfect.

Kurt Davids' Chargers swept the top two places in both singles and doubles Tuesday at Kossover Tennis Center on the way to a perfect score of 76, while Shawnee Heights was second with 60 points.

Senior Carter Cool won the UKC singles championship with a 6-3, 6-4 win over junior teammate James Maag while senior twin brothers Ian and Miles Cusick outlasted junior teammates Caden McGee and Caleb Weybrew in the doubles final, 6-2, 7-6 (7-0 in a tiebreaker).

"In 30 years of doing this I don't think that's ever been even within the realm of comprehension to do something like that,'' Davids said. "New league, old league, it doesn't matter.

"This is the third one I've been in and to sweep and have a perfect score is unreal.''

Both championship matches were highly competitive despite the fact it was teammate vs. teammate and Davids that it's not an easy situation when friends square off.

"These guys are best friends off the court and support each other in everything they do, but when it's a match, things can get pretty intense,'' Davids said.

The Chargers, second in Class 5A a year ago, have now won city and league titles and will try to add a regional championship on Friday at Kossover Tennis Center.

"With city last Thursday and league today and regionals on Friday these guys understand we're trying to be on an upward trajectory,'' Davids said. "Playing each other in the finals was certainly a goal we'd set and to be able to pull that off is good for the confidence.''

Runnerup Shawnee Heights was led by Miles Robison and Jake Emmons, who posted third and fourth-place singles finishes.

Robison took a 6-3, 6-1 win over Emmons in the third-place match.

The T-Birds also finished fifth and sixth in doubles.

Seaman finished sixth as a team, with Gavin Dutton finishing fifth in singles to lead the Vikings.

Seaman and Shawnee Heights will both compete in Friday's regional at Kossover, along with Highland Park.
