Washburn University senior Andrew Beckler tied for second among 84 competitors in the NCAA Division II National Golf Championships in Palm Beach Springs, Fla., the highest national tournament finish by an Ichabod in program history.

Washburn finished 12th as a team, falling short of advancing to the eight-team match play bracket.

Beckler shot a 3-over-par 75 at the PGA National Resort in Wednesday's final round to finish the tournament with a three-day total of 6-over-par.

Beckler, a former Washburn Rural individual and team Class 6A state champion, tied with three other competitors for second place, two shots behind national champion Keegan Bronnenberg of Indianapolis.

Beckler's school-record performance eclipsed the sixth-place national finish by Washburn's John Robbins in 2007, with Beckler putting together rounds of 73, 74 and 75.

Washburn was tied for the final team berth entering Wednesday's final round, but struggled to 43-over-par 333 to fall four spots, 10 shots away from the final qualifying berth.

Ichabod Ian Trebilcock tied for 23rd (233 54-hole total), while Jackson Wexler placed 79th (248), Dawson Wills tied for 71st (251) and Griffin Mott 77th (254).
