Washburn Rural senior Josh Sulzen-Watson won a pair of individual titles and the Junior Blues swept the throws as Rural's boys finished second in Thursday's Centennial League track and field meet at Junction City while the Rural girls also posted a runnerup team finish.
Sulzen-Watson won the discus with a throw of 165 feet and took the javelin title with a toss of 190-3 while junior Jacob Hawks added the league title in the boys shot put at 49-1.50 as the Junior Blues finished second to Manhattan in the team race (204-125).
Washburn Rural's boys also got a win from sophomore Liam Morrison in the 300-meter hurdles in 39.39 as city athletes swept the top four places in that event. Rural senior Cody Ingenthron placed second (40.85), with Topeka High junior Jaxon Cowdin third (41.55) and Rural junor Braylon Badger fourth (42.21).
Morrison, Ingenthron and Cowdin went 2-3-4 in the 110 high hurdles.
Hayden's boys finished fourth as a team, but the Wildcats claimed four event wins.
Hayden senior Finn Dunshee won the 100 dash in 10.73 and junior Jensen Schrickel won the long jump at 22-2 while the Wildcats also took wins in the 4x100 relay in 42.53 and the 4x400 relay in 3:21.72, with Rural (3:21.95) and Topeka High (3:29.38) finishing second and third in that event.
Washburn Rural's girls got individual league titles from seniors Raegan Petersen and Aubrey Simpson and juniors Rylee Ismert and Payton Fink en route to a second-place team finish to Manhattan (191-107).
Petersen won the discus title at 116-8 and Simpson took the javelin crown at 122-3 while Ismert won the 800 in 2:22.67 and Fink won the 3,200 in 11:07.54.
Ismert added a second-place finish in the 1,600 (5:14.11) while sophomore Kenzie Maddox finished second in the 3,200 (11:49.89).
Hayden's girls got wins from junior Bella Reid in the 100 hurdles (16.35) and senior Liz Moore in the pole vault (9-6) while Topeka High freshman Ahsieyrhuajh Rayton won the triple jump (38-7).
Ferguson, Scheid lead Silver Lake boys to big night in Mid-East meet
Silver Lake senior Eli Ferguson and junior Evan Scheid were both double individual champions in Thursday's Mid-East League meet at Rock Creek.
Ferguson won the 1,600 meters in 4:40.66 and the 3,200 in 10:39.43 while also adding a second-place finish in the 800 (2:07.41) while Scheid won the 100 in 11.00 and the 200 in 22.41.
Scheid led a one-two-three finish in the 200, with junior Trent Rollenhagen second (22.78) and senior Blake Redmond third (23.15).
Redmond won the long jump at 21-3 while the Eagles also took a win in the 4x100 relay in 43.55 and senior Spencer Johnson won the 110 hurdles in 16.15.
Rossville captured a pair of field event wins, with senior Barret Lietz winning the shot put at 51 feet while sophomore Andre Johnson winning the javelin title at 152-1.
Silver Lake added four league titles on the girls side, including a pair of wins from senior Kaibryn Kruger.
Kruger won the long jump at 16-11.50 and the triple jump at 34-5.50 while senior Makenzie McDaniel was the shot put champion at 39-8.50 and senior Sarah Wehrli won the 100 hurdles in 16.79, with Rossville sophomore Rylee Dick second in that event (16.88).
