Rossville's boys basketball team picked up its second victory of the season Tuesday night, rolling to a 78-32 win at Kansas City Christian as five Bulldawgs scored in double figures.
Rossville, now 2-3, put the game away early on, opening up a commanding 30-8 first-quarter lead. The Bulldawgs went on to lead 51-16 at halftime and cruised the rest of the way, outscoring KCC 27-16 in the second half.
Mason Jones, a 6-foot-4 junior, paced Rossville with 17 points while sophomore Cameron Miller added 14 points (two 3-pointers), sophomore Jack Donovan 13 (3 3s), junior Kameron Badura 12 and sophomore Jakoby McDonnell 11 points.
The Bulldawgs will close out the 2023 portion of their schedule at Silver Lake next Tuesday.
ROSSVILLE GIRLS 78, KANSAS CITY CHRISTIAN 23
Rossville, ranked No. 4 in Class 3A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, improved to a perfect 5-0 on the season Tuesday night, taking a 78-23 road win at Kansas City Christian.
The Bulldawgs led 16-6 at the end of the opening quarter and then used a 31-6 second quarter to put the game out of reach, taking a commanding 47-17 advantage to the locker room at halftime.
Rossville continued to roll in the second half, outscoring KCC by a 31-6 margin.
Senior Emma Mitchell led Rossville with 23 points (two 3-pointers) while sophomore Rylee Dick added 19 points with five 3s and Nora Burdiek 20 points.
Next up for Rossville is a Dec. 19 clash against rival Silver Lake, top-ranked in 3A, at Silver Lake.
SHAWNEE HEIGHTS GIRLS 48, BASEHOR-LINWOOD 47
Audrey Schulte canned a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Shawnee Heights a 48-47 United Kansas Conference win at Basehor-Linwood Tuesday night.
Schulte, a 5-foot-6 senior, inbounded the ball on the sideline, got the ball back outside the 3-point line as time ticked down and swished her game-winning shot from a couple of feet outside the arc.
Freshman KK Emmot paced Shawnee Heights with 18 points as the T-Birds improved to 3-1 on the season.
Heights will be at home Friday to host Leavenworth in a UKC contest.
SHAWNEE HEIGHTS BOYS 65, BASEHOR-LINWOOD 58
Senior Brennon Dodge and junior Jaret Sanchez combined for 39 points Tuesday night as Shawnee Heights topped Basehor-Linwood 65-58 in a United Kansas Conference road game.
Shawnee Heights evened its record at 2-2 overall and in the UKC with its second straight win as Dodge scored 20 points and Sanchez 19.
The T-Birds will close out their pre-holiday slate at home Friday night, with the T-Birds hosting Leavenworth in a UKC game.
WASHBURN RURAL GIRLS 38, SHAWNEE MISSION NORTHWEST 34
Washburn Rural's girls improved to 3-1 on the season Tuesday night, taking a 38-34 non-league win at Shawnee Mission Northwest.
Freshman Maddie Vickery led the Junior Blues with 14 points while senior Zoe Canfield scored 11 points in her first action of the season and senior Destiny Ochs added eight points.
Washburn Rural, No. 7-ranked in Class 6A, will be at home Saturday to host Kapaun Mt. Carmel in a 1 p.m. contest, the Junior Blues' home-opener.
SHAWNEE MISSION NORTHWEST BOYS 65, WASHBURN RURAL 53
Washburn Rural's boys dropped a 65-53 non-league road decision at Shawnee Mission Northwest Tuesday night.
The Junior Blues fell to 0-4 on the season.
Washburn Rural will play its home-opener on Saturday afternoon at approximately 2:45 p.m. against Kapaun Mt. Carmel, which is ranked No. 2 in Class 5A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association.
