Highland Park's boys basketball team celebrated its rise to the No. 1 spot in the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association Class 5A state rankings with a 107-64 romp past Meadowlark Conference foe Kansas City-Sumner Academy Tuesday at Sumner.

With the win the Scots improved to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

Highland Park will travel to KC-Harmon for a Meadowlark Conference game on Friday before competing in the Topeka Invitational Tournament next week at Topeka West.

HIGHLAND PARK GIRLS 64, KC SUMNER ACADEMY 20 -- Highland Park improved to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in the Meadowlark Conference with a 64-20 conference road win over KC-Sumner, ranked No. 7 in Class 5A by the KBCA.

Sophomore DeAsia Sanders scored 20 points on eight of 12 shooting from the field for the Scots against the Sabres while sophomore Amelia Ramsey added 14 points.

Highland Park will be at home Friday to host KC-Harmon in a Meadowlark Conference contest before competing in the Salina Invitational Tournament next week. The Scots will play Salina South in a first-round game on Thursday, Jan. 19, at Salina South.

HAYDEN GIRLS 37, JUNCTION CITY 27 -- Hayden snapped a two-game losing streak with the Wildcats' first Centennial League victory, a 37-27 road decision at Junction City.

Hayden improved to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the Centennial League after dropping games to state-ranked Emporia and Washburn Rural to open league play.

Junior Lauren Sandstrom and sophomore Brylee Meier led Hayden with 13 points apiece.

Hayden will be back in action Friday, hosting No. 8-ranked (Class 6A) Topeka High in a Centennial League game.

JUNCTION CITY BOYS 44, HAYDEN 42 -- Junction City edged Hayden 44-42 in a Centennial League game at Junction City, with the Wildcats dropping their third straight league game.

Hayden fell to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in the Centennial League.

Hayden will be at home Friday night for a league game against Topeka High before the Wildcats and Trojans compete in next week's Topeka Invitational Tournament at Topeka West.

ROCK CREEK GIRLS 55, ROSSVILLE 53 -- Rossville dropped a 55-53 nailbiter to Rock Creek in a Mid-East League battle between state-ranked teams.

Rossville, No. 10-ranked in Class 3A by the KBCA, fell to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in the Mid-East League while Rock Creek, No. 5 in 4A, improved to 7-1, 4-1.

Junior Emma Mitchell led Rossville with 22 points while sophomore Shyanne Hoehn added 12 points.

Rossville will travel to Valley Heights for a non-league game on Thursday before returning home to host St. Marys in a Mid-East League game on Friday.

ROCK CREEK BOYS 66, ROSSVILLE 46 -- Rossville had its three-game winning streak snapped by Rock Creek, which rolled to a 66-46 Mid-East League decision.

Rossville, which fell to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the Mid-East League got 14 points and four 3-pointers from freshman Jack Donovan while Kade Perine and Tayson Horak added six points apiece, with Horak hitting a pair of 3-pointers.

Rossville will play a non-league game at Valley Heights on Thursday before hosting St. Marys in a Mid-East League game on Friday.

SEAMAN BOYS 48, BASEHOR-LINWOOD 39 -- Seaman posted its second straight win in Tuesday's 48-39 United Kansas Conference road win at Basehor-Linwood.

With the victory, Seaman improved to 3-3 overall and in the UKC.

The Vikings will travel to Shawnee Heights on Friday for a UKC game.

Seaman will compete in the Valley Center January Jam next week while Shawnee Heights will compete in the Viking Classic at Shawnee Mission West. 

 BASEHOR-LINWOOD GIRLS 74, SEAMAN 71 (2 OT) -- Seaman dropped a 74-71 double-overtime heartbreak in a United Kansas Conference road matchup against Basehor-Linwood in the Vikings' first game after taking over the No. 1 spot in the KBCA Class 5A girls state rankings.

Seaman had its six-game winning streak snapped by the Bobcats, with the Vikings falling to 6-1 overall and 5-1 in the UKC.

The Vikings will be on the road again Friday, playing No 9-ranked Shawnee Heights in a UKC contest.

CAIR PARAVEL LATIN BOYS 66, KANSAS SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF 11 -- Cair Paravel Latin snapped its five-game losing streak with Tuesday's 66-11 non-league romp past Kansas School for the Deaf.

The Lions improved to 2-5, with Evan Will leading three double-figure scorers for the Lions with 15 points.

Simon Everhart added 14 points for Cair Paravel and Ben Roeder had 11 points.

Cair Paravel will be at home Friday to host Olathe Heritage Christian in a Kaw Valley Conference tilt.

CAIR PARAVEL LATIN GIRLS 42, KANSAS SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF 16 -- Cair Paravel's girls improved to 3-4 overall with Tuesday's 42-16 non-league win over Kansas School for the Deaf.

Cair Paravel will be at home Friday to host Olathe Heritage Christian in a Kaw Valley Conference tilt.

SILVER LAKE GIRLS 82, WABAUNSEE 13 -- Silver Lake, second-ranked in Class 3A by the KBCA, remained undefeated on the season with Tuesday's 82-13 Mid-East League rout over Wabaunsee.

The Eagles improved to 7-0 overall and 5-0 in the Mid-East League with the win.

Silver Lake will be at home Friday to host Riley County in a league contest.

SILVER LAKE BOYS 35, WABAUNSEE 32 -- Silver Lake snapped a brief two-game losing streak with a hard-earned 35-32 home Mid-East League win over Wabaunsee.

Silver Lake improved to 3-4 overall and 3-2 in the Mid-East League, getting 12 points from senior Braxton McDaniel.

Senior Troy Heiman added nine points for the Eagles.

Silver Lake will be at home Friday to host Riley County in a Mid-East League matchup.
