Washburn University soccer played its first draw of the season Sunday morning against Western Colorado, with the two teams battling to an 0-0 deadlock in Kearney, Neb.
From the start of the match Washburn (3-2-1) controlled possession and it resulted in shots. The Ichabods created 12 shot attempts in the first half while holding the Mountaineers (1-4-1) to just one attempt.
Still, the score remained the same after 45 minutes of action.
It was more of the same in the second half, with Washburn creating 10 more shot attempts, including six in the first 15 minutes after the break.
The Ichabods put pressure on the Western Colorado defense in multiple ways as they earned 13 corner kicks while preventing the Mountaineers from attempting any.
The 22nd and final shot of the match for the Ichabods came in the 89th minute while the score remained 0-0, which is how it stayed until time expired.
Former Washburn Rural standout Hailey Beck earned her third solo shutout of the season while making two saves. Washburn shut out its opponent for the fourth straight match.
Josie Boyle and Jordan Tenpass anchored the defensive effort, limiting Western Colorado to just three total shot attempts as they played 90 and 89 minutes, respectively.
Twelve players had shot attempts for the Ichabods, led by Presslee Amick off the bench with four and three going on goal.
Aubree Orosco had eight saves while playing all 90 minutes for the Mountaineers.
The Ichabods begin MIAA at 6 p.m. Friday at Yager Stadium, hosting Central Oklahoma.
