Washburn University's men's and women's track teams combined to set 12 school records in the Southwest Baptist Invitational at Bolivar, Mo., with former Shawnee County standouts Zac Chander, Eric Patterson Jr., Wyatt Heiman, Josh Wiltz and Kaylee Snell sharing in the record haul.

Patterson, a Seaman product, teamed with Shawnee Heights grad Josh Wiltz, Silver Lake native Wyatt Heiman and Josh Hopkins to set a school record of 41.85 seconds in the 4x100-meter relay en route to a fourth-place finish in the 16-school men's meet 

Former Washburn Rural Class 6A state pole vault champion Zac Chandler and teammate Peyton Lane both cleared 4.80 meters (15 feet, 9 inches) to improve on the previous school men's pole vault record of 4.71.

Seaman grad Kaylee Snell took second place in the women's 3,000 meters in a time of 10:32.26, taking more than 36 seconds off the previous school record of 11:08.67.



Washburn's Romain Henry picked up first-place finishes in the men's 110 hurdles (13.93) and the 400 hurdles (52.17), setting school records in both events. 

Connor Last finished second in the long jump with a school-record mark of 7.51m (24-07.75) and Kevin Norville broke the school record in the triple jump at  15.26m (50-00.75).

Isabella Hohl set WU women's records in the 100-meter dash (12.17) and the 200 (25.23) while Lily Johnson set a school mark in the 1,500 meters (4:37.75)

Shae Ware finished third in the heptathlon with 4,911 points, breaking the Ichabod record of 4,031 while posting outdoor personal-bests in all seven events.

ICHABOD BASEBALL RIDES LONG BALL TO SPLIT -- In a Saturday doubleheader that included a combined 10 home runs by the two teams, Washburn's baseball team earned a split at Central Oklahoma.

The Ichabods, 8-14 overall and 7-11 in the MIAA, took a 6-4 win in the first game before dropping a 12-3 decision in Game 2.

Parker Dunn hit a solo home run in the top of the first in the opener, the start of a 3 for 4 performance with two homers, a double and three runs batted in.

Kros Bay hit the third Washburn home run of the first game while Wyatt Featherston hit two ground-rule doubles and recorded an RBI.

Brock Gilliam picked up the pitching win for Washburn, improving to 4-2 on the season while allowing two runs and three hits over seven innings while striking out 10. Casey Steward captured his first career save after getting the final four outs, allowing zero hits and one unearned run, with a walk and a strikeout.

Brett Ingram added Washburn's fourth home run of the day in the second inning of the second game and Zion Bowlin added a round-tripper in the top of the fifth,, but the Bronchos (12-9, 8-7 MIAA) used a six-run inning to take control.

Bowlin finished the game 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Tyler Clark-Chiapparelli doubled twice and Ingram's homer was his fifth of the season.

The Ichabods return to Falley Field on Tuesday for a 5 p.m. game against Pittsburg State.

WU SOFTBALL SET FOR WEEKEND RETURN -- Washburn's softball team, 19-4 overall and 5-1 in the MIAA, had doubleheaders at Missouri Western on Friday and at Northwest Missouri on Saturday postponed due to COVID-19 protocols, but the Ichabods are scheduled to return to action Saturday and Sunday at Gahnstrom Field.

Washburn will play a Saturday doubleheader against Central Missouri (1 p.m. start) and a Sunday twinbill against Lincoln (1 p.m.). 

WOMEN'S TENNIS TOPS NORTHEASTERN -- The No. 19-ranked Ichabod women's tennis team defeated Northeastern State 6-1 in an MIAA match Saturday to improve its record to 10-1 overall (3-1 MIAA).

After a tough conference loss to No. 4 Central Oklahoma on Friday, Washburn took the doubles point as both the No. 2 and No. 3 teams earned victories. Maja Jung and Kinsey Fields took a 6-1 win at the second spot, before Maria Soler Valverde and Svea Crohn sealed the doubles point with 7-6 (3-0) win in the No. 3 double match.

Washburn won five of the six singespoints, getting wins from Marta Torres at No. 1 (6-2, 6-1),Crohn at No. 2 (4-6, 6-4, 10-4), Valverde at No. 3 (6-2, 6-2), Jung at No. 5 (6-4, 6-4) and Cadence Lynn at No. 6 (6-1, 7-6 7-5 in a tiebreaker).
 
Washburn returns home to host Missouri Western on Friday at 2 p.m. at the Washburn Tennis Complex.
