A senior tennis standout, Cool won his second city championship in No. 1 singles last Thursday at Kossover Tennis Center, helping Topeka West win its third straight city team title (outright or shared). Cool clinched his individual title with an 8-5 win over Washburn Rural senior standout Mason Casebeer in the final.

Cusick, a senior, teamed with his twin brother, Miles Cusick, to win their third straight city tennis title in No. 1 doubles last Thursday while helping the Chargers win their third consecutive city team championship (outright or shared) by a 30-26 margin over Washburn Rural. The Cusicks, defending Class 5A state champs, took an 8-0 win over Rural in the final.

A returning senior state champion, Druse won three gold medals in last Friday's Bob Camien/Claudia Welch Invitational track and field meet at Seaman. Druse won the girls 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 16.51 seconds, ran the leadoff leg on the Vikings' winning 4x800 relay in 10:06.22 and anchored Seaman's 4x400 relay to a win in 4:08.95 as Seaman finished third as a team in the 24-school meet.

LENNY NJOROGE, Topeka West

The Topeka West senior distance star posted a pair of individual victories in last Friday's Bob Camien/Claudia Welch Invitational track and field meet at Seaman. Njoroge tied the West school record in the boys 1,600-meter run with a win in 4 minutes, 17.71 seconds and came back later in the evening to win the 3,200 in a personal-best time of 9:20.08.

Valdivia, a senior golf standout for the T-Birds, shot a one-under-par 71 to finish second individually for Shawnee Heights in last Tuesday's Firekeeper Open at the Firekeeper Golf Course in Mayetta.
