The Washburn Ichabod men's and women's track teams will be back in action for the second week in a row in their indoor facility, hosting the All-Kansas Open on Saturday (11 a.m. start).
Scheduled to compete in addition to WU are squads from Baker, Benedictine, Cloud County Community College, Cowley College, Fort Hays State, Fort Scott Community College, Garden City Community College, Highland Community College, Northwest Kansas, Ottawa, Pittsburg State and Pratt Community Colege. As of Thursday night, 318 student-athletes were scheduled to compete in the second meet in Washburn's new facility.
The Washburn track and field program is in year No. 5 this season, with both the Ichabod men's and women's teams picked ninth in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll that was released on Thursday.
Washburn's women posted a pair of event winners and combined for 10 top-five finishes in last weekend's MIAA Rust Buster meet, the inaugural meet in WU's new facility, while the Ichabod men also claimed two victories and posted 19 top-five finishes.
Mandana Voillemin won the women's 60-meter dash in a time of 7.92 seconds while Skyler Saunders won the women's high jump at 5-foot-31/4 inches.
Hayden product Darian Hillebert was third in the women's 60 and finished second in the 200, while Vouillemin was fifth in the long jump.
Virgi Scardanzan tied for second in the women's pole vault, while Rachael Mayberry was fourth.
Romain Henry set a school record in his first event as an Ichabod in the men's 60-meter hurdles prelims with a time of 8.13 and ended up winning that event in 8.19 while Logan Stock finished fourth, Mason Engelken fifth and Michael Pearl sixth.
Tom Haug opened his indoor season with a first-place finish in the men's high jump st 6-81/3 while Stock was second.
Gabriel Chinya placed second in the mile in a personal-best time of 4:267.56 while Wyatt Heiman set a personal best in the 200 to finish fifth.
